Methinks Doh is a better coach than you. All good coaches have egos.

Nayakundi was not in shape. He could not meet a team conditioning requirement that every other member of the team did. Doherty redshirted him because he sees him as a valuable part of the team, I would think. Also, since Nayakundi got his conditioning together, Doh has been VERY complimentary of him publicly. He has mentioned Robert by name numerous times in his blog and on his Monday radio show saying how proud he is of him for the hard work and what a good player he has been in practice. You feel like Doh's ego was getting in the way when he expected Robert to meet team conditioning standards?

No idea what the deal is with Bennie Rhodes so I won't comment there. I do know from reading some interviews and other things on the net that he was fairly cocky prior to his coming to SMU.

I thought on last night's radio show that Coach Doherty praised Bennie by name for his play on the white team. Don't know if it means anything or not.

the white team is the 2nd string players who the first team practices against.

white team = scout team
red team = starters

But they go to class and are good team guys. They pass pretty well also. They also run the Princeton offense very well.

An ego because he expects his players to follow the rules and meet the conditioning standards set down for them??

Doh has never proven anything as head coach, short of being an effective talent evaluator. He handles players as poorly as anyone in D1. His entire stock is based on recruiting. What he needs is to be humble, not chock full of ego. His ego, coupled w/his inability to earn his players respect, ruined his career

The kid is in shape now, but it took a redshirt to get it done? If he could have helped this year, run his balls off, get him in shape, and get him on the floor. Doh has a history of being trigger happy and letting his emotion run the day. We could have used Nyakundi. We are under talented and under disciplined w/am average bench coach, at best. For Doh to be successful, he needs superior talent. Thus far, he's not bringing marquee talents

His career isn't near over so there is no way he could have ruined it. Maybe tarnished, but not ruined. Have you ever talked to the man? Have you seen how he conducts himself on road games when he sees an SMU fan? He is very accessible.

I remember my friend and I walking into Moody one day to go see him and walked up to him in the halls. We introduced ourselves, he introduced us to Mr. Salvino (the guy the strength and conditioning center is named after, I assume). He was going to lunch with Mr. Salvino, but he took the time and took us to his secretary to drop off the posters we wanted signed. A few days later, his secretary calls my friend to tell us that our posters are signed. When I look it, it is personalized with a thought-out, witty remark. Matt Doherty is a class act, through and through. He could have blown us off, but he took the time to be personable and thoughtful.

Let's face it-not every freshman on this team was destined to play this year. You got to red-shirt somebody especially if they aren't ready to play. This is the universal norm eveywhere.

This isn't football. Mass redshirting of frosh is not the norm in D1 hoops, not even close. We turned the 7 man class of 07 into the 7 man class of 08. Did someone say attrition

If Rhodes played any, and I thought he did, of course he is not eligible for redshirt. AND if he is practicing with the team, I doubt he is eligible for medical hardship. The hardship would have to be basically a season ending injury if I read the rule correctly. From reading on this site, I think he has been practicing for a while with the team. If Rhodes is with the team next year, he will most likely be a Soph.
