He was a coach's coach. He made Texas high school football the legend that it is.

Gordon Wood received a note in the Atlanta GA paper - rare in a paper so insular, despite its pretensions.

As former Houston Oilers head coach Bum Phillips said: "(Wood) could take his'n and beat your'n, and vice versa."

One of the 'great ones' has passed. He'll be missed by many. Rest in peace, Coach.
