He may have some anger problems (but so did Bobby Knight). All in all, this is a time for patience. If after four years we still haven't had a winning season under Doh, its time to re-evaluate things.

i see what you are saying, but i don't necessarily agree and I will tell you why. Mike Dement did more with less in the first 5 years of his tenure. Doh may still get there and beyond, but its an auspicous start to put it plainly. Doh has refused to hire a Dallas guy as a prominent assistant. bringing Lutz over from SFA is not gonna get you inroads into the power high school programs in Dallas. this is after the guy from Michigan went back there after one year. So Doh has had two chances to bring in a local recruiter, even if a figurehead. He chose not to, so its hard for anybody to say he is doing all he can do locally. which is where everything starts.

Not only should he have hired a local on the bench, he should have looked long and hard at an AAU type. High school coaches don't have the sphere of influence as summer guys anymore, and its not close.

Beyond that, you won't find one fan base in the ACC that thought Doh was a good bench coach. Great recruiter, no doubt, but sub-par on the bench
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Clearly Doherty made some mistakes this year. They are:
* Thought he would get John Roberson as his PG but he went to Tech. No decent plan B.
* Didn't / couldn't recruit JUCO talent to bridge the gap while the freshmen get seasoned.

The question is can he adapt? Can he find a PG? Can this team develop like he thinks it can?

I don't begrudge him not recruiting Dallas better. Those DISD coaches are a bunch of prima donnas and their best players are going to a BCS school. They won't stoop to our level - regardless who the coach is. We only get DISD elite if we start winning big time.

I can tell you that another season of blow outs in a mid major conf. at a school like SMU and the bloom will be off the rose and competitors will say he is finished and recruiting will suffer.

People believe because of his resume. But if he doesn't show we can at least be competitive. People will lose interest (what is left) adn the program will suffer.

I hope and pray that his team comes together and he can at least go 500 in the conference next year.

Since we won't have as many openings next year for new recruits, I'm not overly concerned about recruiting at the moment. Doh is pretty much going to have to win with the talent he has. I expect the team to still be in transition next year with the breakout year the year after. We lose our biggest scorers next year including Killen and Roberts. We also lose Ritter. We will be woefully short on upperclassmen. The only senior will be Fall. The only junior will be Spencer. Walker and Harp are improving and will have to up their games to take up the outside scoring slack next year. Hopefully, some of the California recruits can make up the slack if we are going to compete. I just don't see a big year next year. JMHO!
