New SMU record

Postby SMUFan » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:58 am

Can't believe Sharee Shepherd had NINE steals against UAB, and especially on the road, where visiting teams can sometimes get homered by refs who don't "want to hear it" from the coaches they regularly see.

Congratulations on a fantastic performance, Sharee, and keep up the winning!

Well done SS. That was a ridiculous game.

Seems like she's been getting steals by the bundle all year. SMUMustangs.com says she has 77 this year. What's the record?

Her performance on the defensive end could very easily land her on the All-Defense team for the Conference, maybe even Defensive Player of the Year.

She should be Defensive Player of the Year.
Who votes on that? Coaches? Media?

I believe only Head Coaches vote on it and that's it - I could be wrong.

She deserves it. I've been to almost every home game this year, and I haven't seen a player - at least in the games against us - who's even close to Sheperd as a defender.

97 - jointly held by Wendy Truskey (80-81) and Kim Nowak (79-80).

Is she on pace to break it?

Guess that depends on how you look at it. For the season, she's averaged 3.08 steals per game. She needs to average 5 per game in the next four.

The game notes on SMUMustangs.com said she has had five steals eight times this year. That goes up to nine, with her record performance against UAB, so I would say it's not out of the question - a longshot, maybe, but it's possible.

Good luck, Sharee!

Nine steals in a game = great athletic ability + superior desire and effort + a fantastic work ethic + a little luck. Hell of an accomplishment!

She's rarely the leading scorer who gets the headlines, but there have been a bunch of games where Sharee is the heart and soul of the team.

Houston's stud guard got held to ZERO points when we played down there - I assume she had to be injured or sick or something, because she can score in bunches. If Sharee can take her out of the game, we'll destroy Cougar High again.
