I think it's been speculated before, and if so, feel free to remove, Moderators:

McKinney is playing running back again!

It has been speculated, but is your post a confirmation? If so, it sounds like we're going to be sending a Mack truck up the middle on short yardage. Good luck stopping the truck froggies!

I got it from a player on the team. Whether he got it from McKinney or elsewhere, I don't know.

Sure like the idea of that, though. If he's still 260 or more, as has been reported here .... OUCH.

No kidding on the ouch part. Just think, if we can get a heavy running gme going to comlement our passing, we could be downright dangerous. I would love to see a 260lb McKinney blow open a hole for a hard running 225lb Demyron Martin. Could become a lethal combination.

Might make a few opposing linebackers get back on the bus early, or quit the game altogether!

I don't think you'll be seeing too many two rb sets in JJ's offense although I would liked to have seen that setup with McKinney lead blocking while PB was here.

Someone pointed this out before, but Hawaii has had success running the football. It just gets overshadowed because they get so many yards in total that it's a smaller percentage of the total. So JJ will use the run when he has an effective running back.

Over the last 6 years, SMU has averaged 1685 rushing yards/year, which is nearly 44% of their total yards.

During that same time, Hawaii averaged 1322 rushing yards/year, which is only 20% of their total yards.

So it's not like they never run, it's just that as a % of the total, it's a lot less because they pass for over 5000 yards in a season unlike our paltry average of less than 2200.

Think the point of the post was that JJ's offense will use a single back set when a RB is in there...not line up with a fullback to open holes.

Jones doesn't employ tight ends, but during a transition and utilizing what talent is on the roster, it appears he is using a big, athletic body to ensure pass protection from the backfield. I haven't seen McKinney enough with a ball in his hands to speculate, and I'm sorry for not assuming his yardage in high school versus the Boyds and Jacksboros of the world is legit, but hold the images of McKinney juking and spinning in the open field. He'll be involved as a blocker and potential receiver out of the backfield, but not a rusher.

When would that have ever come in handy?

McKinney is a tough player with a great football attitude.
I still think JJ and staff will evaluate personnel and place them where they best fit their program and the team.
McKinney's toughness and hardnose play may better fit the other side of the ball, LB.
The best back for our backfield is Butler.

I walked out of the Morgan Campaign kick-off deal with JJ and specifically asked him about McKinney. I asked if he might play LB. He said he had talked with him (AM) and that he (JJ) mentioned to AM that he likes a big RB in his system. He said AM's eyes lit up. From what I could gather, he is giving AM the option of position (within reason) but encouraged him to consider RB. Oh yeah, he also mentioned that AM is up to about 270...

AND....don't forget McKinney still has 4.5 speed along with a 6'5" 260/270 frame. Awesome of JJ to give him the chance to play at RB his senior year. I never understood why he did not get a shot at RB before here after his high school career ?
