So basically the penalty for boosters paying players at OU was the loss of a couple of scholarships? The article also says that OU enforced those penalties. Does that mean that the NCAA did not punish them at all? If this is the case then WOW!!!!!!!(with extra exclamation points)

Must be nice to be OU.

I realize that what we did was much worse than what OU did, but come on. How can the NCAA just take back their ruling and only charge them with the loss of a few scholarships? When is the NCAA going to actually enforce anything? This is getting ridiculous.

At this rate, they are going to award additional wins to USC for the Reggie Bush scandal. Might even give the a few additional scholarships for a three-year period with a mandatory BSC bowl appearance.

How do we get our wins back from '98 ???????

We lost 4 wins that year for using an ineligible player.

Not really. It was two majors in five years. They could have easily received the DP. :!: :!: :!:

What is this DP of which you speak (My apologies to Samurai Stang). Sounds like some ancient form of torture. No one in modern times has been subjected to any such punishment.

Well this last violation was only found to be two players, the SMU violation was a little more extensive than two players. We also flipped the NCAA the bird and went back to cheating.

National Corrupt A $ $ whole Association is what I came up in my mind as a SMU student in 76 when the NCAA levied us 2 years probation with sanctions. No TV games or bowls for 2 years.

This was for one of Dave Smith's special team assistants paying a couple of dollars to players who made big plays, and hits on opponent punt returners. Rumors of big money to famous UT running backs of that era, and TCU QBs were common in my family's circle of friends with HS, and college player's families.

Everyone needs to flip the NCAA the bird. Their rules are a joke. The enforcement of those rules are an even bigger joke. I'm not advocating cheating, but this selective enforcement of the rules is ridiculous.

How do we get twenty years back?

The big problem was that we made the penalties from the NCAA far worse!

If anyone wants to identify the catalist that broke up the SWC, one need not look further than our own president's office.

I think we should get reparations. Perhaps one player from each top 25 team's recruiting class for 5 years?

I am sure the statute of limitations has long expired for any action even if it were justified. I am one of the first to say that SMU deserved the DP for its actions and not try to compare anyone else to our past whether or not they were remotely comparable, but this action by the NCAA on behalf of the Oklahoma is an embarassment to the system as a whole and just signals clearly that the NCAA has to either quit operating as a presiding power or revise their methods of operation in order to at least give the sembalance of fairness.
