They are seperate and I dont think it will be confusing or associated with SMU - anymore then the Hoover institute is thought of as an extension of Stanford. Hoover is a very conservative institute and nobody has ever thought of Stanford as being conservative.

Of course - I think it is all good and the more conservative the better, so perhaps I am not the most impartial.

i've always found the whole topic of the Bush Library at SMU to be very interesting.

From a PR point of view, SMU has had a reputation as a school where children of wealthly conservative kids from Texas go to have fun and get an education. The Death Penalty then added the reputation as the school where they pay football players. Post DP, SMU has tried to free itself of these two labels. The Pye Model was designed to move SMU athletics to a non scholarshiop, Ivy league level and Pye mad a very strong effort to recruit more students outside of Texas. The goal being to have the school become like Vanderbilt or Duke as opposed to a regional party school.

Interesting that in one year, we pay a football coach 2 million bucks and then bring in the Bush Library. Is i

Considering how limited the number of presidential libraries there are, and the number of them on college campuses being even more limited, I see this as a very big win for SMU regardless of whose name is on it.

They may have a fundraising problem for it though, since most Republicans will be paying higher taxes if the Democrats take back the White House this fall!

Of course donations should be tax deductible, so maybe fundraising won't be a problem.

Gee, I went to ours because if you went in there and looked like you were studying, you could then pretend to stretch and take a break and talk to the women who were "studying" in the library. Fondren Library used to be the best place on campus to hook up. But that was before Al Gore invented the internet.

I realize that. My comment was meant to be sarcastic.

Bridwell was by far the best when you actually had to study. Often empty and huge oak tables.
