OT: Why should IU have to buyout Sampson?

Postby Big Hoss » Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:31 am

Seems ridiculous that they had to pay him $750k considering (a) he resigned and (b) he was guilty of recruiting violations.

Apparently they did it so that he cannot come back and sue them. How sad is our legal system that he would even remotely come close to being able to build a case against them? I guess it ends up being cheaper in the long run for them to do that vs. paying for potentially more in attorney fees to make it go away.

Not only could he sue, but this buys his silence. The last thing that the AD needs is Sampson having loose lips about lack of institutional control, and knowledge of alleged infractions
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

I don't care as long as IU hires my Atlanta Hawks, Mike Woodson, who is the worst coach ever. It has been reported that Larry Brown has expressed tremendous interest in the Atlanta job as well.

I think he is permanently listed as an applicant with every BB team college and pro.

IU players may boycott in support of Sampson. IU should never hired the guy. The lesson is, you reap what you sow.

Sampson gone, but IU mutiny in the air

It was confirmed by Tim Legler.

I know the reason, it's just disgusting that there is even a remote possibility that someone who got himself in trouble by being a cheater would even have a case against the school. Maybe IU isn't blameless in this situation, but it just seems to me that Sampson is his own worst enemy in all this.

It happens all the time in big businesses when non-union managers are let go and bought out with "packages" for essentially being incompetant, just so they won't turn around and sue for discrimination or some such reason. It is impossible these days to fire someone; ask any HR person.

I was not doubting you. It is just that Larry Brown seems to be one who is willing to move anywhere at any time for any job. He is recognized as a very good coach.

I realize that as well. Again, I am NOT saying that I am surprised that it happened, but what I AM saying is that it's still ridiculous. Chalk it up to complaining vs. asking why.
