Big big win the women especially with UTEP coming up on Thursday. I feel like they will have a huge chip on their shoulder and go out and beat UTEP in El Paso. Call me crazy, but I think they are on a mission to go dancing.

I'm with you. UTEP clinched a tue for the C-USA title last night, but they had to go overtime to beat a really crappy Southern Miss team to do it. They're winning a lot of games, but it's not like they're blowing teams out. They can be beaten, if we play like we can. Good luck, Ponies!

Up 76-72 in the final two minutes, we got two (I think but 1 I recall) from Wills in about 25 seconds that put us up 80-72 with 90 seconds to go and seal it. But we found a way to close it.

I keep debating the UTEP game. But for now, I believe we really need to win it and then win in New Orleans to keep the tournament hopes alive. We are living on the edge.

My theory is we probably need to get to the tournament final with UTEP or if we get there without UTEP, we have to win it because the committee is not taking 3 from the conference.

But for now, we have the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Janielle is about 15 points away from breaking the record. Met her after the game. Very nice young lady.

Hard to believe that at 21-6, you still need to do more work, but they do.

NICE JOB, MUSTANGS! Didn't play well in the first half, and let a very athletic UH team get some confidence - always a dangerous thing to do - and then sent them home with another loss. WAY TO GO!

From SMUMustangs.com:
Women's Basketball Sets New Wins Record

Ponies win 21st regular-season game, seventh in a row

DALLAS (SMU) - Senior center Janielle Dodds scored 21 points, and three other Mustangs scored in double figures, to lead the SMU women's basketball team to an 85-74 win over the visiting Houston Cougars Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

The victory boosted the Mustangs - who now have won seven games in a row - to 21-6 on the year, including 11-3 in Conference USA games. The 21 regular-season victories are the most in school history, and the Mustangs tied a school record (set in the 1997-98 season) by going 15 games over .500.

Saturday's victory marked the 10th game this season in which Dodds scored 20 or more points, and raised her career scoring total to 1,772 points. She now needs just 14 points to break Karlin Kennedy's all-time SMU record. She also had nine rebounds, raising her career total to 936. In the process, she passed former SMU star Shasta Smothers-Johnson (933) to move into second place in school history, and now needs 11 rebounds to break Kennedy's career rebounds record.

In addition to Dodds' 21 points, the Mustangs also got 18 points from sophomore forward Delisha Wills, 17 from sophomore guard Jillian Samuels and 14 from senior forward Sharee Shepherd. Dodds and Wills also led the Mustangs with nine rebounds apiece.

Samuels hit three-of-five three-pointers in the game, raising her season total to 61 and making her just the second player in SMU history to hit more than 60 shots from long range. Andrea Cossey hit 68 three-pointers twice: in the 2001-02 season and the 2002-03 seasons.

Houston's fifth consecutive loss - a streak that began with a home loss to SMU Feb. 9 - dropped the Cougars to 14-14 overall, 8-6 in C-USA games.

The Mustangs now head out on the road to face UTEP at 7 p.m. Thursday night and Tulane at 5 p.m. Saturday in games that can be heard on KKGM (1630 AM) and seen on CSTV. For a complete schedule, log on to SMUMustangs.com.

SMU, the only Division I athletic program in Dallas, Texas, sponsors 17 sports and has been ranked as the top school in its conference for 10 straight years in the Director's Cup overall athletic rankings. And to think that before the season (or at the very beginning of it) someone posted that we should get rid of Rhonda and find a less experienced coach to take the team, since Rhonda's salary can be spent in better ways...

whoever it was that said that, admit your sins now!

That's not exactly what I said. In response to someone else saying that Rhonda should be fired because she hadnt accomplished anything, I outlined her career record here, and then I said this could be her last year if the team didnt perform well, because it was the last year of her contract. Unfortunately, the original thread, which started as a conversation about firing the volleyball coach, has dissapeared, probably deleted at some point. I've discovered recently that alot of threads I posted on seem to dissapear after a few weeks. I apparently have more black horseshoes than I realized.

If I remember correctly, it was the Big 10 fan that was bashing on RR.

Do they run extra fast and jump extra high, yet have difficulty shooting oats into the trough from 3-point land?
