Any Chance We can go 4 corners tonight?

Postby The_RichAlum » Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:09 pm

I would like to see SMU bring this thing down to a snail's pace. Maybe Coach Doh can pull the playbook from Dean Smith and go 4 corners the entire game.......work down the shot clock on each possession and take away some of up and down style of Memphis since their athletes are so much better.

I would like to see thing in the 40's if at all possible and hope for a miracle.

Any chance Jon Forinash can suit up? Mo Tijanni?

the reason why this wont work is in your post.

"because their athletes are so much better"

Personally I would rather lose 100-62 than 40-2. We can seldom go 35 seconds without a turnover so I am afraid we would slow the game down but never be able to score. You never know though. I would say just dribble down and put up a 3 every trip. Hope you hit 98% of them.

Let's just leave a couple guys on the defensive side all night and play 3v5 on offense. No fast breaks allowed.

We could also try fouling them as soon as they start any move towards the basket. If we send them to the line every 40 seconds and they shoot 60%, that's roughly 70 points we need to keep up with.

Or we could just hope our guys play like they are capable of (see UTEP and the first 30 minutes of UAB) and it will actually be a game.

They are terrible on the FT line. I imagine that will be their demise in the NCAA Tourney. We could, as you say, foul everytime and take our chances that way. We would have to burn a few redshirts however to keep players on the court.

With the shot clock, its not even that doable anymore. You can bleed it some, but not much. I remember watching Maryland play South Carolina and the score at halftime was 4-2 Maryland.

I love SMU, and SMU basketball in particular, but I am going tonight to see Memphis. We are what we are, and I hope we can be competitive, but I want to see Memphis get up and down the court....Derrick Rose is fun to watch. At the same time, I would like to see one or two of our freshmen make a few plays for us to get excited about. There are going to be a lot of college b-ball fans with no allegiance to SMU at this game....we need to show something. In addition, there should be quite a few local HS players at this game. We don't get this type of stage very often.
