Stay classy, Baylor

Postby George S. Patton » Wed Mar 05, 2008 11:13 pm

In the final moments of Texas A&M's win at Waco, several Baylor fans threw objects on to the court out of poor sportsmanship and complete classlessness. Also thought I heard that several fans were ejected from the game with about a minute to go in the game.

No place for that and it taints what Scott Drew has done.

This, unfortunately, is not the first display of poor sportsmanship this year in college basketball. Memphis' last second victory over UAB nearly started an all out brawl, and Duke students donned caps and gowns holding signs that said "Fear the classroom" when playing I think either Va Tech of Maryland. This was in reference to the opponents league lowest graduation rate. A guy for UCLA received death threats from Oregon fans because of his choice to play for the Bruins instead of the Ducks.

This sort of display by fans and students is attrocious. While it is certainly not the first time there have been blatant issues with sportsmanship, this year seems to present some particularly bad examples. The administrations at schools need to take action to keep heckling and cheering to a positive spirited manner and try to minimize this sort of behavior. I love to mess with the opposing team, it's part of the game, but it needs to be done with class and sportsmanship.

I think Fear the Classroom is absolutely hilarious. And it would be against Maryland since they're Fear the Turtle and did have the lowest grad rate at I like 18%. It's clean, there's no foul language, no objects being thrown, no obscene gestures, and it's original, funny, and they get extra points for being coordinated and using props. That is funny. That's just like Ho-Ho-Hey-Hey You're Gonna Work For Us Some Day, our shirts that say we're just better than you, or basically anything directed at NTSU.

I was mainly talking about the Memphis v. UAB thing and the UCLA v. Oregon thing. The Duke deal doesn't bother me that much, mainly because MAryland should be embarrassed for having such low academic numbers. My main point was that some of the taunting is getting out of hand, kinda like the way Tech fans treat everyone.
