The ladies got a bit too comfortable after the very powerful opening. They really began to play decent in the ladder part of the first half, and really started to play in the second a few minutes in.
The ladies looked more than relieved to win that game. They need to remain positive and sure to not go into the game fearing UTEP. UTEP is more than beat-able.

FYI UTEP's band has gone down the toilet. They used to be one of the best in the conference.

They looked like a bunch of high school kids. Not just a joke, seriously.

According to a reliable source with knowledge of the situation:
UTEP hired a local high school band to wear orange shirts and play the fight song.
I believe this was actually in the El Paso Times...

UTEP won, left their starters in to the end and cherry picked a layup with a 15 point lead and less than 30 seconds left. I hope we beat them to a pulp tomorrow.

Saw the box score for the UTEP/S. Miss game - UTEP shot the heck out of the basketball. They have so many weapons - we've got to play a lot better tomorrow than we did today.
Go Mustangs - beat UTEP!

Gritty performance in the second half. Not breaking news here but the Samuels 3 that put us up 56-53 with about 3:45 to play was the shot of the game -- gave us the lead for good.
We were strong at the foul line (22-27) and points off of turnovers (29) were clutch. And really, it's the first time since maybe the Rice game down there where we executed better in the final 4 minutes.
Happy for them and postseason berth assured. But it's time to pay UTEP back. They are very good. But so are we. We know what's at stake. Let's get it done Sunday.

I don't think a WNIT bid is even assured - probable, but not assured. Wherever we go - NCAA or WNIT - I'll be there in person. This has been a terrific season to watch a terrific team. Thank you, Mustangs, for a memorable year. There are a lot of teams that don't make the postseason in either tournament, and I do believe you'll make one or the other. Either way, confratulations on the victories record, and I'll see you in the postseason - GO MUSTANGS! SMACK DOWN THE MINERS!

This chart is from Kate's advance from Friday's DMN. The second scenario says we are in the WNIT if we lose on Sunday.
SMU needs to win the Conference USA Championship, which would take three games, to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
•If top-seeded UTEP wins the league tournament and goes to the NCAA Tournament, SMU is guaranteed a spot in the WNIT as the league's second-place team in the regular season.
•If UTEP does not make the NCAA Tournament, it would automatically make the WNIT and SMU wouldn't be assured
