Gimme a break. You mean we actually have to wait 30 days of having a job posted before we can hire an assistant football coach.
I'm pretty sure we officially hired Bennett before 30 days had passed after Cavan was fired.
I hope I'm eating some crow in 24 months, but at this point I believe we will be about 12 months into the new head coach's, and possibly AD's regime.
May the forth be with us.

Nope. It is SMU's hiring policy that all jobs are posted for 30 days before ANY hire is made. All part of equal opportunity, fairness in the workplace, and the rest of that HR mumbo jumbo.
Don't believe me? Then call SMU HR at 214-768-3311 and ask them.

I believe you, thats the policy at alot of places, but at the same time didnt SMU bend this rule last year, in order to hire an offensive line coach one week after the previous coach left? and even if 30 days is the limit, arent we past that now?

Cavan was fired PRIOR to the end of the season ( I think with 2 or 3 games to go)...
Ipso facto, then when bennett was 'hired' it had already been 30 days

Thanks bundles, but I never said anything about Cavan or Bennett. My question was about an assistant coach last year.

The American Football Coaches Association is having its annual convention in Orlando, FL this week. (Rice University HC Ken Hatfield is the AFCA president this year. He succeeds Philip Fulmer of Tennessee.) Perhaps we'll hear something about SMU's OC hire after the convention...?

Shankweiler, the OL coach who was offered a job, took a job with South Carolina.

Even though Shankweiler is gone to SC, the DMN is reporting that Rusty Burns will "probably" accept the SMU OC job later this week.
