Sad that ESPN.com started with a UTEP quote about "we didn't play well" rather than an SMU quote about the excitement of going to the NCAAs, ending UTEP's streak, etc.
Not surprising - but a shame, nonetheless.

Another story on the link shows how UTEP got a bunch of 9th and 10th graders to sub for their pep band. Nice story, and good experience for the 9th and 10th graders, but I kind of feel bad for them having to contend with our mighty Mustang Band...

not to mention they have that damn Marty Robbins song in their head now.

It was great to see that Mustang Band made the trip, despite rumors to the contrary. It truly shows the TOP 25 committment of the Athletic Dept when they Pony Up the $$$ like that. I couldn't imagine the outrage if a HS band showed up in Mustang Band's place.

The Band sounded great. Hopefully, they will get to play four games in Memphis.

Surprisingly, only about half of the schools sent bands. Off the top of my head, I believe Marshall, ECU, Rice, Tulsa, and Tulane did not have a band.

Surprisingly? Did you see the attendance at these games?

Yes, but I also went to the WAC tourneys in Fresno, where everyone sent a band and the attendance was similar. I guess having the guys and girls play at different sites is financially restrictive for a lot of the schools.

That's probably it. It's a little easier to justify the travel money if the band and cheer can work both men's and women's games.
