Conference USA Spring Preview
From College Football News:
SMU Spring Practice Begins: March 3 Game: April 5
The early spring buzz ... The firing of Phil Bennett and eventual hiring of June Jones on the Hilltop creates a change of culture for Mustang players. Not only will they be adapting to new playbooks and terminology on both sides of the ball, but they’ll also have to get used to more media attention. With Jones comes the high-powered Run and Shoot attack and an increase in attention at a school that hasn’t produced this many football headlines since getting hit with the NCAA death penalty two decades ago. SMU needs a system, or a blueprint, of how to rebuild a program, which is exactly what Jones is capable of delivering.
The big spring question is ... How long before SMU looks like Hawaii? The bigger question will be at quarterback, where Justin Willis, who has the talent and potential to blow up in the new offense, has been suspended indefinitely from the team for the dreaded “violation of team rules.â€

While the defense will remain a liability, the offense will eventually get to a point where it keeps the Mustangs competitive in league games that were blowouts a year ago. In lieu of a miracle, SMU will win a few more games than it did in 2007.
Obviously, they didn't see many SMU games. The blowouts weren't our biggest problem. It was the one-point losses, the last-minute losses, etc. If we had won those, it would have been a very different season.

That's what I was thinking when I read that. I mean we lost 3 OT games and 2 in the last minute of the 4Q. Win those and we're looking at 6-6 again.

Bryan McCann or Patrick Handy, I'd say.davidsmu94 wrote:LincolnHawk wrote:I love how our best returning Off. player might not be returning and if Will B. is our best returning Def. player we are in trouble.
Who is our best returning Def. player?
POTENTIALLY our best: Youri Yenga, Jordan Johnson, Derrius Bell
Wildcard: Rock Dennis, who virtually nobody here has seen play.

Who is our best returning Def. player?
You just proved my point. We are probably in for a long year when, if the article was honest, they would have just left "Best Returning Defensive Player" blank.

Who is our best returning Def. player?
Morstead, since field position is important.
