And Stallion thinks he can't do the position...
Stallion, you're such a kidder....
I look forward to razzing you mercilessly come this time next year. I think he will do just fine there. Especially if he came in 12th in tackles with the sacks he got at DE while only playing part time. Yeah, they spent a lot of time on the field, but that will serve him usefully this year as they improve.

I think he is already growing into a DE and eventually will return to DE. Division 1A schools don't recruit based on a players best high school position.

Outstanding story. I think the move to LB sounds like a logical one, and helps what was a glaring need last year - the need for more size at linebacker.
Nice work, webdudes.

Simply by our presence on this message board, and by our mere association with our beloved Mustangs, can't we all be described as such to some extent?

I agree with Buddha. Smart seemed to run well last year, but more than that, he's big and strong. I'm no more a coach or talent evaluator than anyone on this board, but I would think he'll be a great addition at linebacker.

Tongue-in-cheek.

Nope. I'd have to say that the overwhelming majority on here are fairly hopeful people. You'd have to be. And perhaps we're not all crazy as there seems to be some good reason for hope of late for SMU football fans.

No, we're crazy all right. Most of us, you included ponyboy, have been hopeful fans of this wreck for the last twenty years. But at least now we've got a proven coach to go with our hope, so let's keep rolling with it.

Thank god for PonyFans.com, since the DMN doesn't bother to do stories like this, and I assume the Daily Campus just doesn't have room.
Greatly appreciated, guys.
Good luck, Justin. Wreck shop at LB.

Smart should be at LB.
For years, we've had guys who should be DBs playing LB, and guys who should be playing LB playing DE.
Defense needs to be bigger and stronger, and if Smart can handle the gig at LB, that's a good first step.
