Re: South Carolina hires ShankweilerYep.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: South Carolina hires ShankweilerCorrect me if I am wrong, but didn't Holtz "relieve" his son Skip of the Offensive play calling for the [deleted] and was mum about whether or not his kid was still the Offensive Coordinator? Since Cincy's old coach Minter is the Def. Coordinator now, I wonder if maybe Holtz doesn't look at Rusty Burns as a candidate for the Offensive Coordinator position.
Re: South Carolina hires ShankweilerI'd rather have Burns than Holtz, Jr., but there have to be better candidates out there than either of them.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Re: South Carolina hires ShankweilerI guess this dispels the silly argument that SMU was waiting for some 30 day HR policy to expire before announcing the hires. The DMN article does say that the OC is accepted to be accepted by Burns by the end of the week. I guess this also dispels the other silly argument that they have been recruiting.
Re: South Carolina hires Shankweilerget this straight-the hire will not be made until 30 days after the job was posted (just like every SMU vacancy in the last 15 years) and the coaches could not have done much recruiting over the last 3 weeks anyway because of the Quiet Period and Dead Period in recruiting. Some are being silly-but the ones pointing these facts out are not.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
