Steve Shankweiler said he turned down an offer to become offensive line coach to accept the same job at South Carolina.
Shankweiler, who spent the 2003 season at Cincinnati, said he wanted to live near his parents and children in the South Carolina area.
Shankweiler told SMU coach Phil Bennett on Tuesday night.
Rusty Burns, who spent five seasons at Cincinnati, has been offered the offensive coordinator's job at SMU. He is expected to accept the job by the end of the week.

Re: The DMN is reporting...
There were rumors that he, like Burns, had already accepted. If that's true, then turning his back on his commitment is pretty bush-league. It's not like he's an 18-year-old kid -- I can understand players changing their minds as they determine their futures. But he's a grown man, and it's never a good idea to commit to something and then burn that bridge. I hope it's not the case, that he never had actually accepted.

Does not matter....Bennett has a plan already in the works and will not be long until SMU has an offensive line coach. Good luck to Steve Shankweiler and Go Mustangs!!!!
SMU...2nd to None

Sure hope Coach Bennett has a good one in mind!

Anyone know who the replacement candidates might be?
