TCU Adds Top Late Recruit

Postby Stallion » Fri Mar 21, 2008 11:34 am

DB Jason Teague (6-3, 195) who originally signed with LSU but went to Tyler JC for academic reasons. Rated 3 stars and 5.6. Rated No. 65 in the Rivals Texas Top 100 out of high school and rated the No. 53 JUCO in the Country this year. Had offers from just about everyone out of high school.

actually they got 2 late signees-the other on was from a kid from Louisiana named Justin Moreaux 6-2, 193 who it is claimed played only a single year of high school football but came up with 65 catches for 1,225 yards to become the leading receiver in Louisiana. The report I saw said he had offers from TCU, Georgia, Arkansas, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.

Well I was going to post that Monceux might be a late qualifier but I noticed he really signed about February 24-about 3 weeks after signing date. Very often when a player that received a lot of recruiting attention signs late its a pretty good sign of a possible academic issue. For example, inexplicably a lot of kids wait until December or January to take their SAT-or they have to retake it. When they get a qualifying score they sign. The same type of kid who might not project to a high enough GPA might sign in the summer period once he gets the required GPA. Some JUCO sign in the summer because they were non-qualifiers out of high school and have to actually graduate from JUCO to go D1A. A school might wait because a recruit has a long way to go in the classroom. I call these guys late qualifiers. Teague is without question a top prospect and always has been. Unbelievably the kid is a 6-3 CB and the No. 2 rated JUCO CB in the country. Monceaux is not rated but he did have a pretty darn good year considering he never played before senior year. Has the size, speed and performance to project as a very nice recruit.

Wow, Stallion...he's not rated, yet he projects "as a very nice recruit."

You're kind of a moving target, aren't you?

He said he had offers from Georgia and Arkansas.

Yep, that makes him a 'very nice recruit' in my books.

It was Carnac, er, Stallion who advised us that you had to discount what the recruits say.

I pointed out he was unrated by Rivals and I referenced a report- not a fact he had the offers listed. Full Disclosure. (the report of offers btw is now confirmed by Rivals). After watching his highlite tape I have no problem saying he's a "very nice recruit". Big, strong and can easily run past defenders. Oh and by the way he just decided to take up football as a Senior(which just might be tad part of the reason he was unrated). Tell me what is so out of line with those comments AFTER viewing his highlite tape. What's so out of line with calling him a "very nice recruit". Or maybe some of you guys are being a tad of a 'homer". I'll tell you right now I'd trade just about all of our WR recruits for him.

Kudos to TCU for getting a player who couldn't even get into LSU.

This kid has some serious speed. Why he would decide to go to a school with an unexciting offense like TCU is a mystery to me.

Us -"homers"?-the last I time I looked this is an SMU website-not TCU.. And I'll take some of our slot recruits over this guy.

Being that you have seen them all play and the real fact is that you are such an expert on talent evaluation. Nobody that good signs that late, other than Terrelle Pryor.
