SMU should stay out of any game at Jerry Jones Stadium in Arlington - unless it's a bowl game. Jones wants way too much money for tickets and the schools booking games there are going to find out the hard way that he really won't budge on that.
I think the refurbished Cotton Bowl will contintue to be a viable venue for college football for years to come unless Jones drops his prices.
Jerry Jones had absolutely nothing to do with SMU not playing at Texas Stadium after the DP. Administrators thinking "small time" and "Ivy League" did. Yes there was a certain element of economics in the decision since SMU really wasn't interested in being competitive with the requirements of a quality Division 1A program so it would have cost SMU some money. Therefore, SMU decided to play in a second rate high school stadium rather than a quality venue. Showed every single recruit in Texas we were not serious about putting a quality product on the field. One of the biggest mistakes among many in rebuilding the program because it absolutely destroyed the life-blood of any program-recruiting. The "cost" to the program of playing in a "minor league" venue was much greater than the "cost" Jerry Jones would have charged SMU to play at Texas Stadium.
With Arkansas and Texas Tech coming to DFW with A&M and Okla. State, here are a couple of candidates for us (I suggest Big XII instead of SEC schools):
1. Missouri 2. Kansas 3. K State Both would value playing in Dallas. Doubt LSU would want to travel to Big D for us. Pony Up
Frogs have LSU coming in 2014 http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/futu ... future.htm so they are probably out for smu, and actually only probably 50/50 for us.
Yeah, in a "spawn of Satan" sort of way. Talk about an egomaniac who couldn't leave a good thing alone. For what it's worth, he and his wife have donated to the Meadows School of the Arts for years.
Thought we had a home and home with MO coming up.
Let's try and look at the bright side of these games although I too wish we were involved. If they attract people from Dallas who have not normally been attending college games and they enjoy the game, perhaps they will continue the college game day experinece by coming to SMU games. We should find a way to market SMU as the only Div 1-A school in Dallas to the fan base at these games and draw on that rather than sulking that we are not the one in the limelight.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
you have 8 posts so who the hell are you telling me I have no credibility-cheerleaders don't like the fact I haven't sugar-coated the shortcomings of this program. In case you didn't know SMU was 1-11 in 2007 and has no bowls and 1 winning season in 19 years. My opinion with "no credibility" has pointed out the shortcomings the program BEFORE each and every one of those years. I am extremely proud to be hated by so many cheerleaders on this board after what has transpired AFTER my comments-its a badge of honor-and most every criticism I have made over the years has now become the official policy of the university. Perhaps you ought to pay attention to the opinions of those who have not been afraid the point out the obvious shortcomings in the program.
SMU decided to disassociate itself with the pro-connotations of playing at Texas Stadium. Those are the facts. The admnistration very early in the transition decided the raise the funds necessary to remodel Ownby Stadium which took about a year to complete. There never were serious negotiations to return to Texas Stadium. This is an excerpt from the New York Times" "That will end next September, however, when S.M.U. football returns. And just like in the more modest days of college athletics, the Mustangs will be playing in Ownby Stadium, which is being renovated. The new setting will be quaint by Southwest Conference standards - seating capacity is 23,615 - but this is the new administration's way of giving football back to the students. ''I think it's important to bring football back to the campus,'' Gregg said in an interview last Thursday. ''As an alumnus, it bothered me that there were people who came to football games here and never set foot on campus.''
