SMU looking at Carter DT

Postby SMU 86 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 2:08 pm

It would be nice to add another DISD kid to the roster. He is on the ESPN top 150 player list. This is what they have to say.

Chris Henderson | DT Hometown: Dallas, TX
Carter High School
Ht: 6'3" Wt: 270
Last Updated:3/23/2008

Evaluation:

Henderson is a disruptive presence inside. He has good size and should be able to add more bulk. Grabs your attention with his get-off at the snap. His hat often is the first one moving. Has the quickness to shoot gaps and get penetration. Comes off the ball low and has the power to push a blocker back. Flashes the ability to use his hands to shed, but needs to improve in this area. Creates a push and can be disruptive, but doesn't consistently bring his hands and create separation. Sometimes struggles to get off blocks. Has a nice motor for a big man. Hustles around, gets downfield and makes some effort plays. Shows solid straight-line speed, but appears to be a fairly upright runner who is a little stiff on the move. Moves well laterally in the trenches. He's a solid wrap-up tackler. Can get under a blocker?s pads on the pass rush and create a push to collapse the pocket. Has the burst off the ball to beat a blocker and get in a quarterback's face. Excels at getting to a blocker's shoulder and playing half a man. Needs to be more active with his weapons and learn to separate and finish. Has the ability to pressure, but misses some plays because he has some trouble getting off blocks. Could stand to add bulk, but should be a disruptive college defender if he puts on another 20 pounds and maintains his quickness. Henderson should create problems for opponents that allow his teammates to make plays at the next level. With some refinement, he could provide some playmaking value himself.

I must say I was pleased to read this article and see that the kid is 6'3 270. I guess my mind has been conditioned to expect to see 5'11 270 or 6' 280 or 6'2 250.

Henderson is considering A&M, KU, TTU, OU and SMU according to ESPN.

Rivals doesn't show us being considered but shows offers from Arizona and A&M.

Just for comparison, scout.com calls him a defensive end, but clearly it's out of date - says he's only 250 and plays defensive end, not defensive tackle.

I'm just glad we are getting interest from quality athletes, at this point, because of JJ & Co. I think our next recruiting class will be impressive.

I just can't understand why anyone would want to go to College Station - especially now that June Jones is coaching here in this kid's hometown.
