Getting love from JTstang and Mrydel, I am gitty like a school girl right now. Thanks guys for the support

I have failed you all. Had three cigarettes when I was out for work happy hour (happy night?) last night. But my commitment to quit, and stay quit is probably stronger for it.

First of all, I didn't enjoy them. Secondly, I woke up coughing.... I hate that.

My cousin, a former smoker, told me - just yesterday - to go out and buy some tea tree oil sticks and have them with me anytime I go out drinking. He did it for years and still buys them from time to time. Basically - he said it's something to do with my hands and to put in my mouth.

So needless to say, I will be buying some tea tree oil sticks before next Thursday night.... or earlier if I don't go out this weekend - which may be likely considering that I am closing in on my personal deadline to get Josephine completed.

-----

Anyway, stay strong '94. Back to day zero for me. Darn it.

Thad, you did not fail us, you failed yourself, but that is ok. The key is to keep trying. Do not beat yourself up when you breakdown, but rather strengthen your resolve to do better the next time and start immediately. The biggest mistake I would always make was saying to myself that I had failed so I might as well go ahead and start smoking again. Just pick yourelf up and keep going. You will reach a point that when you want a cig (and that will be there the rest of your life) that you will just say it is not worth it and you will decline from having one. Keep up the good work and let us know how it is going. And that is my Stuart Smalley speech for the day.

I haven't had a cigarette since Thursday.... and I haven't had any nicotine of any kind since Friday evening.

I'm doing well....

And yes mrydel - I used to do the same thing, "well I failed.... might as well have another cigarette." This time I got right back on the horse. And I didn't even intend to not chew the gum yesterday, I just didn't want to.

I'm on day 4 (3 full days plus) and am doing quite well. On the plus side, I am massively sick with an ear infection. So even if I am having nicotine withdrawal, I'm not noticing it all. Too busy focusing on my lack of equilibrium and disorientation..... oh and the fever, lest I forget the massive paing in my ear.

Yes, I'm an adult who still gets inner ear infections. I shouldn't be embarrassed by it, but somehow I am. It just seems like a kids illness. But I had a ton of surgeries on my mouth an nose as a kid, thereby weakening the immunity defenses all of the highways and byways of the ear nose and throat traffic system.

But anyway, no smokes no problem.

How are you guys doing '94 and '18?? And JTsupporta, are you back in the saddle?

I only know a couple of other adults who still get them. I am one. Ear infections suck. Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? I swear that putting a drop of peroxide in the offending ear and letting it sit helps. Repeat a couple of times a day. I usually try to do it when I feel the ear infection coming on, and it seems to get rid of them. Might be worth a try.

Go to an SMU football game. The stark silence, other than the occasional "down in front" will give your ears the rest they need.

For some reason I think I knew that.... but I couldn't find any, all I had was rubbing alcohol and witch hazel. They didn't really work.... Anyway my doc medicined me up. ABout to head into work right now.

Came dangerously close to slipping tonight. Was driving home and thought about stopping by the neighborhood bar for a cocktail, but not really fro a cocktail, to bum a smoke from the first stranger I saw. Then, less than an hour ago I saw one of my neighbors out smoking, I was within 20 yards of him, and everything said go get a sickarette Matt, go get a sickarette from Matt!!! Then, with all my strength I turned towards the stairs to my place.

It was then that the dark passenger tried to take over, you haven't talked to Matt in a couple weeks, you should at least go over and shoot the poop. Arghhhh! I realized my own devious ploy, and Matt, with his back turned to me never had even seen me. I knew if he had all I would say was hey Matt, and not even go over to him. I held my course and went up the stairs.

Two minutes into doing my dishes everything was fine. This has been the toughest evening of the no nicotine era.

I still have a can of snus in my fridge, and and some nicorette in my medicine cabinet. So if it ever gets really bad... but you know, I just don't think it will.

We've got a cigarette,
We've got a cigarette,
We've got a cigarette,
Na na na na!

(Thank you Beck for an incredibly catchy song about a time bomb, and occasionally other red, hot, or smoking objects.)

I have fallen off the wagon again this past weekend, but my resolve is still true. I just have to remind myself even if I haven't smoked in a few days, and no matter how crazy bad I feel, just hit the snus/lozenges/gum.

Saturday night the desire was so overwhelming as I sat trying to work on my movie, that I just went to the corner store. And the thing of it is - of course - this whole thread came about because of my thread about snus, and how, I was amazed that if I just let it do it's dirty work, even when I was editing (film work has become so entangled with smoking it's ridiculous.... I have to got out every 15 minutes) that it would work as long as I let it.

I used to be so good at quitting things!!! But again, the cough and the lack of sense of smell and taste have returned. Reminding me of just how much I need to keep fighting the good fight! My doc asked me about trying a new smoking cessation drug, if I keep struggling, I will be in there.

The fact of the matter is that I think I can do it. I just need to have a little "stick-to-it-iveness".

I have an engagement again with my film tonight. I have no cigarettes on my person. I will make it through tonight without smoking. What was it that mrydel said? Don't let the idea that you have failed be an excuse for just picking right back up where you left off. (Or somesuch.) I'm going to lick this thing.

Smoky Treats... Why can't I quit you!!!
