I hope we don't end up with another Rich Rodriguez situation.

I still say this is a non issues. June won't pay a dime of this money. There are 20 people ponying up for his salary, this would be a pittance to those fine gentlemen and ladies.

This is from Stephen Tsai, the Advertiser's lead reporter on Hawaii football.

http://blogs.honoluluadvertiser.com/warriorbeat.php/2008/03/27/spring_is_in_the_air#c374464

Just to be clear he's not getting paid for not working here the final six months of his contract.

The final year of the contract runs from July 1 through June 30. He was paid $400,000.16 from July 1 through Dec. 20. He did not receive the $400,000.16. from January through June 30.

So he only has received $400,000.16 for the 2007 season.

Now UH wants him to pay $400,000.16 for an early-escape clause.

If he does, then he would net zero dollars for coaching the 2007 season, right?

I have to believe there was an agreement in place because UH gave Jones permission to talk to SMU.

That's my take.

I think they should waive the fee.

I mean, JJ could have been stink about it and served out the remainder of his contract, then leave. If that happened, UH wouldn't have been able to hire McMackin or any other coach while JJ was on the payroll.

This was one of my responses to this issue.

According to your timeline, JJ wasn't paid for ANY of the time UH was in New Orleans. And it would appear that UH still owes JJ the bonus he's supposed to get for the team playing in a bowl game.

I would subtract the money owed due to the bowl bonus from the money owed for leaving early. No sense having checks going back and forth...this really needs to be put behind already.
