The only criticism I have of the book is that it could've used more thorough editing. It seems like every other sentence has something italicized. Not that it's bad, but it's almost like emphasis overkill, not unlike ending everything with an exclamation! And that gets old! And there's only one person who gets away with so may points of emphasis! And that's Coach Doh! In his hoops blog!
It is an entertaining read. Not the easiest book to hold while you're reading - most "readers" are accustomed to a more standard size - Barnes & Noble at SMU still has a few copies.
RGV what I love about the book is how much it
seems to apply to SMU and the book was written long
before June ever considered coming to SMU. As I read
the book I found myself saying "they are talking about
SMU", but really they were talking about the grim situation
June faced and overcame at Hawaii. All the losses.
The defeatist attitude among players, fans, students,
media, and how June Jones turned that all around.
Also the book gives such great insight on what makes
June tick, how he arrived at his methods, how he looks
at players and their potential and what we can expect
over the next few years. The book is an absolute must
read for SMU fans, players, and parents. After reading
the book, I honestly think June Jones is the best
coach/fit for SMU in America.

I agree with you. The editorial considerations notwithstanding, I enjoyed the book as well. And to think....we could've been stuck with Paul friggin Johnson. What's the song about unanswered prayers?
Read it twice and couldn't put it down.
It is a must read if you really want to understand Coach Jones and what drives his approach to winning and success.

Maybe the dueling italics/exclamation points in their blogs will keep the English department from complaining and whining about athletics for a while - they'll finally feel like they are getting some exposure as well.
