Red/Blue recruits

Postby Dement-ed » Sun Apr 06, 2008 11:10 pm

Yes, I walked through the crowd trying to identify recruits (and there were a ton of them there!) When I got home, I looked up the ones I could remember. Some had info out there, some had nothing - most I forgot.

• League City (Clear Creek) OL Jared Biard (6-7.5, 280, 5.3)
• San Antonio (Alamo Heights) QB Drew Allen (6-5, 205, 4.7)
• Abilene (Cooper) OT Blake Spears (6-6, 225)
• Denton (Guyer) OT Kyle Clark (6-5, 270, 4.9) - FOUR STARS on rivals
• Arlington (Lamar) WR David Acker (6-5, 180, 4-6)
• Billy Duval or Duvall or Dugal or something. From Atlanta, according to his nametag. No idea what position. Based on his size, maybe a safety or running back or something.
• Glen Rose QB Derek Thompson (6-4, 210, 4.6)
• Montgomery OL Tobyn Large (6-2, 275, 5.1). For a lineman named Large, he wasn't overly big.
• Arlington HS LB Bradley Onyegbule (5-11, 205)
• Duncanville WR Chayse Jouber (6-1, 180, 4.4)
• Lumberton OL Hunter Howden (6-5, 280)
• Euless (Trinity) LB Earnest Norman (5-11, 220, 4.6)
• Mesquite CB Marcus Trice (5-8, 167, 4.69)
• Sherman OL Josh Higgins (6-4, 280)
• Royse City OL Brook Wempa (6-3, 280)
• A guy in a DeSoto jacket - name said Rod Jones. Looked small, like 5-8 or 5-9 or something. The key here, though, is that OUR Rod Jones - the former first-round draft pick/CB from SMU in the 1980s - is a trainer in DeSoto (sadly, he's been helping Frog DE Tommy Blake get ready for the draft). Could this be his son?

Sorry, that's all I can remember. When I left Ford Stadium, I tried to write down as many names as I could when I got in my truck, but I can't recall any more.

Oh yeah - I also saw three guys whose nametags said Dallas Jesuit, but I don't remember their names. Looked like one lineman and a couple of smaller guys.

How do you remember that many?
Looks to me like you only paid attention to the big guys.
Whatever your strategy - thanks for the report.

Great job Dement-ed,

Here are a few I saw.

Cody Wilson, LB 6-1 225, Tulsa
Darius Taylor, LB 5-11 215 Mesquite
Darnell Taylor, S 5-10 175 Mesquite
Langston Rhynes, DE/LB 6-1 190, North Garland
I saw one OL from Desoto, I think it was Chris Atchison, 6-1 256
I also saw one kid from Kimball, maybe a DB or WR, I think Bowe was his last name.

I also saw some of our 2008 signees too - Braden Smith, Robert Parker, and Evan.

If I remember any more I will add them to this list.

Heard an unconfirmed rumor Argyle WR Brady Brown was there, too.

South Garland DB Jamal White (already has an offer from Kansas) was there, too. Kid is a serious SMU fan, so I'm betting if our coaches decide to offer him, he might well accept.

6-0, 186, 4.5

Very developed, muscular frame for a guy his age - he definitely looks the part.

I looked up some of the guys listed above. Just to make BUS happy, it should be noted some of those big guys - specifically Biard, Howden, Clark and of course Spears - look downright skinny. Could get much, MUCH bigger.

Isn't this the same school where some linebacker plays who came out to practice a couple of weeks ago? Don't remember his name, but I remember someone saying he looked like a real horse (or perhaps Mustang?)
Wonder if they're good friends and want to play together?

Heard Elkins OL Garrett Belt was at Ford Stadium.
With that said, I know absolutely nothing about him.

OL from Gonzalez TX was there, last name Eardley, don't know much about him. His brother works for a consultant of my company who said the kid's 6'4", 283. not in Rivals.

said his family loved the coaches, impressed by their football experience, surprised and impressed by the facilities. thought it was weird that the coaches were dropping Hawaiian words constantly since they've left HI and are in Texas...figured they need to leave HI behind...that was probably some of redneck from Gonzalez TX coming out in him

Also there:
OT/DT Maxx Hill - Whitney, Texas
No size info, but he looked pretty big - maybe somewhere around 6-4, 275?
Second-team all-District 12-3A on BOTH sides of the ball.

OL Daniel Rosas - Grand Prairie
6-1, 280, 5.2

I met his mom last night. He does NOT yet have an official offer from Kansas, although she said she was told one is forthcoming in the next few days. She also said that her son wants to play for SMU over any other school, if given the chance. She sounded like she'd be pretty fired up to be able to come see him play, too.
