OT: Sports Bar Suggestion?

Postby ponyboy » Tue Apr 08, 2008 3:39 pm

I've got several 40-something males who need a good sports bar to watch the Mavs game at on Thursday night. We all live in University Park. Suggestions?

Seriously? I loved Milos when I was 21 and still an SMU student. Now that I'm nearly double that age, shouldn't we choose maybe something a little more mature? What about Uptown Bar & Grill?

Bailey's First & Ten in the northeast quadrant of Abrams and Mockingbird.

-Good sports memorabilia.
-Slow service.
-Top 5 burger in town. Get their fries extra crispy.
-No female scenery.
-Gotta go if you've never been.
-Avg age = a lot older than 40's

Man, I went a couple of years back and the tv's were awful. Not big on the strip center location either. But at least they have slow service and no female scenery. Other ideas?

Bailey's has upgraded their TVs - much better now.

Buffalo Wild Wings on Lemmon is big and has plenty of TVs, but it can get loud in there. Frankie's on McKinney in Uptown is a good spot and so is Christie's on McKinney.

ponyboy, why don't you complain a little more?

Did you really want a suggestion? Milos is the closest sports bar to UP, has great tv's, decent service, pretty good food, an occasional coed...otherwise you're stuck on McKinney ave.

Frankie's (McKinney & Bowen) is my favorite sports bar, but you have to get there early to get a table.

TEN sports grill downtown has great tv's, good food, "talented" waitresses, good drink specials, and they host the Matt Doherty show.

Downsides are its downtown if you are a person who hates driving there/parking. Also I find the more "talented" the waitress you get, the slower the service. I'm usually okay with the sacrifice of speed in that case though.

No, man, you misread my message. I wasn't complaining about Milo's, and am appreciative of the suggestion. I just remember it as a bit of a loud dive inhabited by SMU students. Didn't seem appropriate for a bunch of middle aged guys from UP. Maybe I'm misremembering the place.

Bailey's is (sadly enough) my favorite bar. Drinks are soo much cheaper there

The best part of Bailey's is the back room that looks like some sort of 70s lounge.

It has its positives and negatives, but it is a real man's bar - something sadly lacking. It seems like most places are trendy/overpriced or on the other end you might get shot.

Park Cities Hilton is a great place to watch a game. They have a nice lounge with leather chairs and wood panelled walls, several big screen t.v.s, and Guiness is only $4.50 a pint. Yeah, it's valet parking, but if you get it validated, parking's free.
