I believe incoming freshmen Quincy Whittington, Bo Levi Mitchell, and E. J. Drewery may be there as well.

Cute.
The coaches have shown they're not messing around, and that all positions are open to competition. With that in mind, I would expect just about everyone will be in school to get caught up or get ahead, and will be working out to get as familiar as possible with the systems before August rolls around.

this is a result of a new NCAA rule started I believe last year allowing freshmen to start classes during the summer. But I'm not sure SMU took advantage of the new rule last year.

I was wondering if this was new. I had never heard of this before at SMU.

No they took full advantage of it last year - Derrius, De'von, Josh R., were definitely at 2nd session and there were a few more I can't quite remember...

Most schools now implement this for freshmen. NCAA allows student-athletes to take 6 credit hours in the summer. Some schools have athletes go both summer session and take one 3 hour credit. SMU elects to give the 1st summer session off. It helps the student if they have to drop or fail a class doing the regular full semester. It also helps them get acclimated with College life at a slower pace.
