SMU Marching Band away games

Postby bubba pony » Wed Apr 09, 2008 10:14 am

was told as of now
Rice August 29th
Tulane Sept 25th

Curious if anyone can advise if the band arrives via bus or plane to these away games?

was hoping they come up to Annapolis for the Navy game, but not to be.

bus

and...there is a slim possibility (VERY slim) that the band's presence will be felt at some other away games. Regardless, I would not doubt if you see a few bandsmen at other away games supporting the team as fans.

The band deserves an Annapolis trip. How much would somebody have to Pony Up! to make this happen? (Are we talkin' about 100 in this herd?)

I know it is a budget thing but having the band at away games makes such a huge difference. We surely need them at Tech as well.

I don't know how big the band will be next year...next year's entering students are just now sending in their deposits to SMU and we will see how many join band shortly thereafter.

It's not the SMU Marching Band - it's the SMU MUSTANG BAND.

I think I may base my decision on going to the Tech game on whether the band goes. I don't think I could stomach all that Raidercrap without some Mustang Band countermeasures to offset it.

Obviously, the more away conference games the better. I think that builds rivalries and strengthens the conference. My view is that they ought to go to Disney World, if or no other reason that to show the folks there why Orsini left for SMU!!!

By joining the Diamond M Club, you can help get the band to more away games, along with increase scholarships to help increase the size of the band.

http://www.diamondmclub.org

You can pledge online or call 214-SMU-BAND.

If you'd like to inquire about sending the band to specific away games, you can contact Don Hopkins and Tommy Tucker to see what kind of funds it would require to get the band to where you want to see them.

Maybe you guys could do what a lot of other schools are doing now. Put together a smaller traveling band that goes to all conference away games. They don't march at halftime but play in the stands to give a presence during the game. UT, Nebraska and USC are among the bands that do that. It's still a budget issue but it would be a smaller budget issue that taking the full band to every game.

That idea has been discussed.

problem is, the 'smaller' version of those bands is about the size of our normal band.
