Well that's my question - is that $2 mil to put in a complete, ideal bandhall, with practice rooms, sounds insulation, a museum wall with fancy lighting, nice offices, sound and video systems, nice shelving with locking doors, a locker room, etc etc, or is that to put in the bare minimum habitable space, with air conditioning, a few basic shelves, and some el-cheapo walls to put in an office and a library?

I would say that the $2 mil is for the ideal scenario...though I am not sure about the museum wall with fancy lighting. As far as the locker room goes, I'm not sure why we would need such...Dedman already has locker rooms, we used those this year, and it worked out fine.

Besides, what's the difference between the current band hall and a cheaply-done band hall in Dedman? Location.

I have no idea what is in the plans for the new bandhall - I was just throwing things out there.

The difference between dedman and the current band hall is that dedman isn't about to be condemed like the natatorium is. I'd much rather see the band get into a minimum requirements juarez bandhall asap than try to hold out for funding for a highland park bandhall and end up practicing in Meadows. They can always upgrade the place later.

If SMU tears down the Nat. without first building a new band hall...all hell will break loose.

And I really have no clue what is in the plans for the new band hall either. All I know is that there will be a ramp.

When the band hall does move, what will happen to the blocks?

It's just historical memorabilia - perhaps the top surface can be removed and auctioned for a few bucks.

While I was being facetious, why would you save the blocks? It gets painted over after a few years anyway. Or in the case of my class, flakes off in a one big latex sheet after 3 months because nobody listens to the people who actually know what they are talking about. Not that I'm still bitter about that. [deleted]

I knew you were being facetious :)

I'd save the blocks because of the tradition it represents.

You should do it tonight just so I can see a police report about a student sawcutting concrete. That's a once in a lifetime thing.

Truth of the matter is, doing something for the sake of doing it is pointless. If you are going to go into a new space, it needs to stand up to the next 50 years of abuse our current one has taken. Likewise, it needs to be a facility up to par with the rest of the University, and with the standards the University has set for itself in its endeavors. Anybody interested in growing this band realizes that the dark dungy hole we inhabit now (oops) doesn't help the reputation of the organization. It doesn't necessarily hurt it either.

How nice would it be to bring in a kid and his parent(s) and show them around a facility with nice offices and a legitimately sized rehearsal space? It makes a big impact on wide eyed high school students (see every other facilities argument ever made)

Is that why it takes the band so long to change in the 2nd quarter, because you are trekking to Dedman to use the locker rooms?
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Might be time to go to changing coat/vest/tie only during the game.
