Random theft of our marketing trademarkDriving from Indy to Chicago today, noticed a billboard promoting Purdue atheletics.
The slogan on the billboard? "BOILER UP!" Wonder if the Richards Group is doing their marketing too. while I'm at it, here's my need to vent: Like many others, I had an AA flight canceled. No I didn't want to try tomorrow, or the next day. So I got refunded. And $1000 later, what started out as a 90 minute nonstop from DFW morphed into an all day adventure from DFW to Detroit back down to Indy and up to Chicago. There. That feels better. Couldve been a lot worse, from what I saw and heard.
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademarkInitially I thought 'Pony Up!' sucked but it grew on me. But 'Boiler Up!'? ![]()
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademark
They've been using that for several years. So, now who's the thief? ![]()
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademarkThey are. They live in Indiana, so they're automatically not bright.
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademark
I can confirm that. A close friend of mine is a Purdue alum, and he's been using it for years. Derail the Frogs!
![]() "Boiler Up" New logo to accompany popular phrase for 2007-08 April 16, 2007 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is excited to introduce a new "Boiler Up" logo to accompany the popular phrase for the upcoming 2007-08 sports seasons. "Boiler Up" has become a favorite axiom of Purdue fans in recent years and often is said by fans to one another in passing on game days. It even has found its way (unofficially) into the school fight song, "Hail Purdue," and is a popular chant among fans during key moments of athletic contests. "We think `Boiler Up' is the perfect tagline for our promotional campaign," said Joe Muller, senior associate athletics director for external relations. "In addition to being a lively catchphrase, it's a compelling message for our alumni, fans and friends of athletics." The "Boiler Up" logo will be used on posters, schedule cards and other promotional materials for all sports. The 2007 football poster and schedule cards will be available at the Black and Gold Game this Saturday. "Boiler Up" originally was the brainchild of Joe Tiller's wife, Arnette, who introduced it early in her husband's tenure as head football coach in an attempt to bring more enthusiasm to Ross-Ade Stadium. It immediately caught on. What Arnette didn't know at the time of "Boiler Up's" origin was that in the days of steam-powered locomotives, when the fireman got the fire in the coal box hot enough for the engine to run, he would exclaim "Boiler's up!" http://purduesports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/041607aaa.html ![]() "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademarkNo kidding. Have you ever been to the Purdue campus? It's nicer than UNT, but not much. The town it's in is OK, actually, but most of that state is a flat hole (if there is such a thing....)
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademark
did I mention I'm up here visiting my daughter, who....ahem....lives in Indiana?

Actually, I dont think West Lafayette would exist if Purdue wasnt there. There's no reason for it, other than the university. And its NOT ok, it's a dump with the worst streets I've ever driven (bounced) on, it's like Godzilla stomped his way through town, twice, and any pavement that wasnt already broken got smashed by a backhoe. I especially loved the signs that said "Purdue University, this way" but pointed in every geometrically possible direction, and most of which contradicted each other. I imagine half of them were actually fraternity pranks, since there was nothing else to do in town, except rent movies from the Wal-Mart. However, their "Boiler Up" campaign did, indeed, precede the Pony Up boondoggle. While I was there I saw several cars with personalized license plates that used different misspellings, like "BOYLER UP", etc. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Re: Random theft of our marketing trademark
The 2 cabbies we had were both from there, never moved out, never went anywhere. The only thing to do there is drink, eat, and bowl. In that order. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Haha. They may need to. There's always next year in the BCS Championship.
and even earlier than that it was popularized by the immortal Luke Perry in '8 Seconds,' the Lane Frost biopic.
