AZ WR HAS OFFER FROM SMU

Postby SMU 86 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:04 pm

According to scout.com Arizona WR Markus Wheaton has an offer from SMU.

http://recruiting.scout.com/2/748323.html

Wheaton (5-11 160) was a 1st team all region wideout last year at Phoenix (Az.) Mountain Pointe High School but transferred to Chandler in January.

Wheaton was used in many facets of the game last year for the Pride. He caught 23 passes for 476 yards and 6 TDs. He also pitched in 315 rushing yards and 4 additional scores. On defense he registered 49 tackles and 1 interception.

Most schools are recording Wheaton as a wide receiver.

And Wheaton has the speed that coaches crave. He currently leads the state of Arizona with a 48.68 electronic timed 400 meters. He also has clocked a 22.16 in the 200.

I first met Chandler's fb coach and his family about 13 years ago. Hell of a football guy, and a disciplinarian with respect to how he runs his team. He elicits a high level of loyalty and respect from his players.

I guess based on the literature our compliance folks sent out, though, I'm forbidden from talking to him about the kid. Oh well.

Well, I thought based on the previous link the kid was from Chandler High. My mistake. Strike what I said earlier...no idea who his HS coach is.

oh really? how do you average out a 200 Meters. It doesn't work out that way. Usually kids that excell in the 400 Meters are not your big time sub-4.4 sprinters. Otherwise, they wouldn't be running the 400 Meters-they would specialize in the 100, 200 and relays.

michael johnson's a good example of what Stallion's talking about...best all time in the 400 & close in the 200 but a relatively slow starter compared to his peers in the 200. his first 40 meters probably wasn't top 250 in the world during his peak.

that being said, this kid's probably got pretty decent wheels, it's likely he's just not a burrner if he's running the 400 & 200 and not the 100 & 200.
