CFN: Schedule Breakdowns for CUSAhttp://cfn.scout.com/2/743089.html
SMU Realistic best case record with this schedule: 7-5 Barring total disaster worst case record: 2-10 Realistic record: 4-8
Naw, I don't think so. If we're playing well but just don't have the personnel to support JJ's new schemes, he'll get a pass. Having said that, I think we'll be at about .500 this coming season. Maybe he'll pull off a miracle turnaround.
I could see problems at QB making this a poor season. But I'm hoping Willis regains eligibility. Start a freshman w/o experience and 2-10 or 3-9 is entirely possible-which is the definition of a worst case scenario. You don't want to start a freshman at QB if you can possibly avoid it.
You should see a .500 season. As in the WAC, CUSA has to many bad teams to play. JJ knows how to beat teams with no talent with no talent of his own. Don't expect any upsets during JJ's tenure, he has never beaten a BCS team on the road (talent or not)
Upsets? I would be pleased for SMU to simply win the games it is supposed to. Far East Conference
Reminder: SMU plays eight bowl teams this season. If you were to ask me to set the over/under, I would go with four games, too. Using the pattented "blogger winnable games formula," you get four wins. It is unfair to expect more right now, even though I think this team underacheived last season.
Well, somebody has got to win some games. They only predicted 4 teams with realistic winning records. That just isn't going to happen.
Be positive all you want. Just don't be looking to blame the coaching staff if they don't live up to your positivity.
I'll say this right now.. I'm not a big proponent in starting a freshman QB, but I believe in Bo Levi. I think he is going to be something really special. With that said, I also hope 16 gets things straight so that Bo Levi can redshirt. SMU Grad 1996 - Worked in SMU athletic recruiting office under Forrest Gregg and Bill Weidner from 1992-1997.
According to his book. When first arriving in Hawaii he had his players break the season down into quarters. He had the team focus on seeing how many of these first three games we can win. Among one of the first three games was USC. They won the other two games and started their season 2-1.
Jones knows how to work the psych side of football. He will prepare his players mentally with positive reinforcement and heavy repetition. He has a confidence about him that is contagious. He will have his players believing in themselves and each other. They will not be a team trying to figure out how to lose a game in the last five minutes. This alone will convert some close games into wins. Predict all you want. Right now, Jones will have his team only focusing on Rice and not looking too much further down the road. I see us being 2-1 after the first three games. There rest of the season will take care of itself as the team confidence rises. Go Mustangs!
So what, we play 8 bowl teams. The Tidy Bowl, Toilet Bowl, Cereal Bowl, and Chili Bowl Haircut contenders aren't big boys. It's not outrageous to expect to have a chance against teams like Memphis, Tulsa, USM, and UCF. Maybe my inner sunshine is showing, but I think that if Justin rejoins the team and the defense can get a decent pass rush going, then we can be a force to be reckoned with. Hopeful, yes. Outlandish, I don't think so.
I'm happy if were at least within one or two games from going to a bowl as long as its progress. I'm fine waiting a year to get this team more experience for 2009. June is gonna bring success back to SMU
at this point our head coach is a proven one. our last one wasn't and was the problem with last years team. this year will be a bright one, mark my words
I agree about Bo Levi. He has some great potential, and I think his success on the field will be better if he doesn't have to jump into the fire immediately. A year of getting used to college ball and learning the system will help him run the offense the way it's supposed to. Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
