Big Day tomorrow

Postby crispfifty » Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:51 pm

Big day tomorrow...Any projections? Anybody going to get drafted? It is my belief that no one will be drafted but Kenard Burley will be the only one picked up following the draft, as he is my opinion is the one with the best chance. If you examine the others Ben, Caleb, while they may have been impressive in their weight lifts etc....they are hardly the players on the field that have the ability to play at the next level. I think Ben is a fine young man with a bright future ahead of him in finance, however, not the NFL. I salute him and his great accomplishments at SMU and wish him well. Peveto, doesn't come close to making anything. Holds the record in career holds and cheap shots. But best of luck to him in anyting he does.

Speaking of cheap shots, sounds like you took one at Peveto.

Wow, sure did - a little bitter?
Unfortunately, I agree with you that nobody gets drafted. But I say the Ponies fare well in the free agent pool: Ben Poynter, Kenard Burley, Reggie Carrington and Caleb Peveto all will get tryouts someplace. Whether anyone lasts until training camp over the summer - don't know about that.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

My wager is Kenard Burley gets drafted tomorrow in the 5th round by the Cardinals. Best of luck to all the guys on the team and I look forward to watching and waiting for a Mustang to get picked up.

Sledge will probably get or at least get some good looks... he ran extremely well at senior day and he has been serious about the weight room

Great point in Sledge...I see him as a Wes Welker, who flew under everyone's radar and is going to turn some heads with his work ethic. Best of luck Zach

well C-USA has 3 players taken through 1.5 rounds...a RB from ECU, a WR from Houston and now Forte from Tulane. pretty solid right there.

Anyone else surprised that Forté went ahead of Central Florida's Kevin Smith?

I like Forté, and wish him well, etc., and I think he could have some success in Chicago, but I thought Smith would go first.

Come to think of it, I might become a real Forté fan - would love to see him take Cedric (UT) Benson's job.

How the hell did Donnie Freakin' Avery go in the second round??? I know he's fast, but damn - second round? He's not that good. Fast? Yes. Talented ... average.

I really like the guy - but Sledge will not get a shot in the NFL - he was fine for us but not anywhere near the NFL level level for his postion or any other.

Do you know how many SMU (and TCU and UNT) players have worked out for the Cowboys in recent years? Getting a look-see doesn't mean much. They're making sure they haven't totally missed out on something, that's all. I love watching Sledge play, and I'd love to see him play professionally, but the chances are very, very slim. Dallas brings SMU guys over every year - probably because it's easier than sending scouts over to the school. There's nothing more to it.

KK, Rogers, Bartel... i didnt say that they would pick him up, i was responding to someone posting he wouldn't even get a shot ("looked at")... he was given a shot, now it's up to them and the other teams to evaluate him... 4.4 speed is always attractive, he blocks, and has good hands... not saying he is a draft pick but he has a chance to get picked up and given a shot during camp

Hope he makes it.
There's a rumor on a Cowboys' fan site that two Mustangs will get a tryout next week with Dallas if they're not drafted.
