Rivals says SMU has offered this tall, thin center (6-4, 250) from Fort Bend (Austin), Texas. Dude says he wants to play Baylor, where his Dad played before playing for the Washington Redskins. Interest in a lot of schools - SMU is the first to offer.

Future offensive tackle?

Not sure we want anyone who actually wants to go to Baylor, of course, even if it is Dad's alma mater. Someone who actually wants to go there probably can't get admitted to SMU, anyway.

Baylor = Boring

School, city, students, football. Just one big major yawn festival.

The biggest asset, is its location, right on the freeway running between Dallas and Austin. You don't even have to drive three blocks.

I'd rather live in Dallas ... or even Austin ... than live near a highway that leads to real cities.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

You mean its location on the country's worst drug-trafficking route?

Kid seemed very high on SMU when SMU was the first to offer but his recruitment has blown up in the last month. Now up to 5 offers also including Rice, UCF, UH, and Syracuse.

Just throwing this out there, but does an offer from SMU (read June Jones) now mean that other schools sit up and take notice if the player has no other offers or is unknown? Is it a common practice for schools to look at non blue chip type players if they are showing an offer on a Rivals, Scout, etc from another school, or do coaches typically rely on their own staffs for offers/evaluation?

I imagine word on certain recruits flows in coaching circles when they have a good showing at a camp or combine, but I was just curious how coaches are using this new Internet thingy to aid in recruiting.

Of course, that's also the site that dubbed McJunkin as Enright's replacement ("If June Jones is looking for a center to lead the offensive line once Mitch Enright graduates, he has to look no farther then 2008 signee Blake McJunkin") ... apparently unaware that Andrew Robiskie is on campus already, presumably because Coach Jones and Coach McKnight think he's pretty good.

that's why you get to recruit 4-5 Centers. You know your good when the 4th string center is projected to start in the future. I get a kick out of fans talking about how they are not concerned with a prospect because they already have a starter. Sign of a losing program. You need quality 85 man deep for depth and to build for the future. If Willis doesn't start this year, I think you'll see first hand what I'm talking about.

The more quality o-linemen the better. The o-line has been under-manned for decades around here. And wouldn't it be nice to see our QB sit back in the pocket untouched or not hurried and pick apart a defense.

Amen, We have not had enough big men and maybe that is changing.

The pony express had 10 0-line that played every game. Kind of 1 and 1 A. The D-line did the same thing. With a Herd of Big Men you can GRIND your opponent into submission.
