Student Attendance/Enthusiasm Key for Recruiting
I suspect a major roadblock on JJ's recruiting trail comes from the clear lack of enthusiasm from the student body. Blue-chip recruits aren't interested in half-empty stadiums filled with pre-1983 alums. What can we expect from a PR standpoint out of the coach's office and the actual players as they work to increase student attendance?
Obviously one clear way to do this is by winning. But in addition, might we see a campus-wide initiative to encourage student attendance? What ever happened to the lost art of the pep rally? I'd love to see Moody packed with students and alumni the night before Texas State. Bring Dickerson back to for a speech and have JJ and team seated on the court. Every student in attendance gets a red Mustang Maniacs tshirt and ticket to the next day's game.
I don't care what you have to do - bring in Snoop Dogg to perform a post-rally show. I'd love to see a little more swagger on this team. By making a big splash with a new pep rally focus, not only will you get the students excited, but the 4 and 5 star recruits who got to meet Eric Dickerson AND Snoop on their recruiting visits will think twice before committing to UT or A&M.
SMU has a major shot to become a national program - don't waste such a great opportunity.

A number of universities offer rewards tot hose students that attend the most athletic events. This extends not simply to football, but competitions that are less publicized. I propose we supply our most dedicated student supporters with a vast array of weapons. This will not only intimidate our opponents, but will also deter casual fans from leaving games early for fear of their lives.

SMU really needs to take advantage of energy and
excitement that June Jones automatically brings in. Seems like the players are fired up, now it's time for the students to be the same way. Of course winning will help in this cause.

It's a difficult proposition at SMU. Doherty's been trying, unsuccessfully, to fill Moody for two years. Admittedly, student attendance at men's hoops games seems to have gotten a bit better, but that's not 10% of the work Jones has to do to get students to make an impact at Ford. Got to figure a way to tie it all into the 'vard.

Big difference: he hasn't won. Win and they will come.

That would be a big difference at either venue.

The Sports Marketing Department has brought back the Mustang Maniacs and have pledged to put together a sizable budget in order to let the student group thrive. I am one of the executive members of the group, and I want y'all to know that I love the Stangs, and will do anything to see them succeed. I have already planned a dorm storm for next year to get freshmen interested in the program, as well as having major pep rallies before almost every home game. We will be having a viewing party on the Rotunda for the Rice game. Hopefully, a lot of that stuff will draw more students to the games, as well as created a loyal, rowdy fan base. Any tips would help tremendously!
Also, I have heard the football team is trying to adopt a "Texas Angels"-type program where students host recruits before each home game and try to sell the all the good things the school has to offer.

You Christians are far too sensitive. If your Jesus had a sword you would have no need to fear!
