HERITAGE HALL ANNOUNCEMENT

Postby 50's PONY » Fri May 09, 2008 3:46 pm

To All Mustangs,

After a year of getting ready I am pleased to announce that Heritage Hall is now ready to start offering the following --
1. Football DVD's
2. Basketball DVD's
3. Pictures (primarily Laughead)
4. Football and Basketball Program Covers
5. Coaches Film

The Football and Basketball DVD's are priced at $25.00 each plus $2.00 postage. We have quite a few listed now and we will be adding many more over the next few weeks so you need to keep checking back. If you do not see a particular game you can email me at [email protected] and I will check to see if we have that game and let you know.

The pictures, as you will quickly see, are primarily Laughead. For example, we now have over 28 pages of football pictures ready for you to review. Would you like a picture of Doak the last time he was in an SMU uniform -- we have it. Would you like a picture of Ben White catching the winning pass from Fred Benners in 1950 at Ohio State -- we have it. Would you like a picture of Jim Krebs shooting a hook shot over Wilt Chamberlain -- we have it. We have over 2000 Laughead negatives so we can check to see if we have a shot of your favorite Mustang that is not shown.

We have Football and Basketball covers back to the 1920's. We are not going list each one so just email me and I will let you know if we have the one you are looking for. Covers will be $20.00 each plus $2.00 postage.

Lastly, we have a ton of Coaches Film for the years 1969-1986. It is all on reels. For the next two weeks we will be selling it for $10.00 a reel -- AS IS. Email me and let me know what game you are looking for and I will let you know if we have it. U-Edit Video in Richardson will be glad to transfer it for you and you can call Owen at 972-690-3348 to get a price. This is the place where are doing all of our transfers to DVD and they do excellent work.

Lastly, please understand that we are not perfect so if you see mistakes please let me know. This has been a massive undertaking and we are just getting started. So, go to smumustangs.com and right in the middle of the page you will see "Get Involved." Simply scroll down to Heritage Hall DVD's and have fun.

Go Mustangs!

I know which football DVD I'm buying: "On October 25th, 1980 SMU traveled down to Austin to take on the No. 2 Texas Longhorns before a national television audience on ESPN. The game marked the 60th meeting between the two teams, a series that began in 1916 in Dallas. Texas had won the last 13 games in the series. The Mustangs were 12-point underdogs, coming off of 2 straight conference losses. Texas was poised to make a run at the national championship. SMU coach Ron Meyer made a bold move by changing starting quarterbacks the week of the game. Lance McIlhenny, a 19-year old freshman from Highland Park, was asked to step in and replace All-American Mike Ford and make his first college start against the powerful Texas Longhorns. McIlhenny lifted SMU to a stunning upset and began an era simply known as the Pony Express."

Sorry but this is one we can't locate anywhere. We thought one of the players had a copy but he was unable to locate it. We are still trying so I will let you know if maybe it will turn up now.

It was broadcast on ESPN. Are you able to get a copy from them? Surely they have an archive and it can not mean that much to them.

I saw the game in person and watched it replayed about 7 times the following week on ESPN. It is etched into my brain but I would still like a copy of the video.

I've got the complete game on video tape. Complete with Russ Potts running up and hugging Meyer after the game.

In case it isn't clear, I'm referring to the SMU victory of Texas in Austin.
