The great thing about the off season is you get to dream. If I were you, I 'd put the harsh realities of Sept out of my mind as well. Now I'm not saying past performance is indicative of future results, but I'll betcha it's an indicator.

I think you'll play well against us because its a rivalry game, but come on, third game of the season with a totally new offense? That is a lot to ask for, even when we do play Oklahoma the next week and could look past a bit...

If the past is indicative of future results then we will win, since the last time we played TCU at Ford the final score was 21-10. Remember that game? TCU was loaded then as well - and their fans certainly got loaded after losing. Scoreboard.

Whether the Froggies play OU before or after SMU, it's still gonna be a 'W' for the Mustangs!

The scoreboard taunt is best used when you actually beat a team the last time you played them (ahem..21-7). But I suppose you can hold on to that 2005 score for a few more months.

Here is one you won't get back- even if you win this year. All time series-40-38-7. Now there is a SCOREBOARD!!!

I'm ready for football.

I'm sorry, but if your not saying it's "indicative" then how can it be "an indicator". I think that qualifies as a "Froggie High-ism".

What exactly is the death penalty effect? Is that you not being able to pay players?

So what about a team like South Florida? Started in 1-AA in 1997, a decade after your "death penalty" Moved to 1-A in 2001, and was ranked as high as #2 last year.

Maybe its a good time to retire that excuse.

I think the majority of us have quit using that excuse. The remaining few who do use it will 'retire it' after the 2008 season. ;)

Sounds like North Texas will be #102 tomorrow.

Who is No. 102?: The third university on the Countdown with ties to Hayden Fry, following Baylor and S.M.U. Hayden Fry: the Kevin Bacon of college football coaches.

S.M.U. never allowed less than 21 points in a game, allowed less than 30 only three times and allowed more than 40 eight times. Opponents averaged 498.7 yards per game on offense

Guh. I didn't realize it was THAT bad.

North Texas had 601 passing yards against us.

The death penalty effect is mostly the result of a lack of school support for the football team in the wake of the scandal. I'd even argue that most of the effect is self induced. SMU didn't make winning football a priority until 2008 (or you could argue with the hiring of Orsini in 2005). Had they done so in, say 1997 (to mirror your example), We'd already be back.

Yet even with the bargain priced coaches, even with the additional academic requirements, even with the black cloud of the DP hovering over every stadium that SMU played in... The Frogs only managed to get up by two games. Again, good work.
