Another SMU QB to make good?

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I didn't see it if it has. And, then I saw a headline about Kelan Luker? We can only hope JJ turns the QB situation around by not only drawing good QB's but also developing and retaining them. I know Bartel is a long-shot. But, it sounds as if some Cowboy folks are impressed.
Long live Thomas Sowell!

I love when the Startlegram is forced to mention SMU in a story that isn't negative. They mostly pretend SMU doesn't exist. Best of luck to Bartel!

Bartel has been extremely impressive in practice and the offseason and in mini-camp. Seems like they really like him.

He also has dropped a ton of weight. He was quoted as saying he got up as high as 260 pounds last year, and now is down to 230, and reportedly feels much quicker.

Bartel's problem here was the lack of talent around him. Take a look at that receiving corps he had and the O line blocking for him. Good lord! did we have a receiver over 5'10"?

I figured it was his fondness for hanging around Intramural fields.

His biggest problem wasn't either of those - it was the system and the coaching staff that was in place. I remember when he was here and Bennett was starting Tate Wallis over him because he "practiced better".

Yeah, that worked out well.

And don't even mention the Eckert/Romo fiasco.

Further proof your Bennett pic (and the bad karma associated with it) has to go. If we had a competent coach in place when he was here, Bartel wouldn't even think of ever putting on a TCU (much less a Tarleton State) shirt.

I blame Phil "great guy" Bennett for this crap, same as Cavan for the McCown crap.

His biggest problem was his attitude.

....that and the fact that he was running for his life on every single play. I will never forget that game in Lubbock where I bet he ran 10 miles trying to sprint away from the Tech rush on every damn play.

Remember that Phil had forgotten a lot of football!
