Jack Mildren dies

Jack Mildren, OU QB in my era (68-72) has died of stomach cancer. Jack was touted as one of the top Texas recruits coming out of high school, along with Gary Hammond who of course chose SMU. If I recall (and I was from Arkansas so I did not closely follow Texas football), Jack and Gary were fierce rivals and both were highly recruited by all the top Texas teams. I never met Mildren, but I am glad we got Gary.

here's an SMU connection-apparently SMU was expected to sign Mildren until he met Barry Switzer.
