Something must have changed recently then because Josh Nunes just got an offer from Harvard. Here is a quote from Rivals.

Things are still very busy for Nunes on the recruiting front. He has a pending offer from Florida and he just received his 18 offer today from one of the world's finest academic institutions, Harvard.

"I received the official letter signed by Coach Murphy and the verbal from Coach Larkee," Nunes said. "Being offered by the No.1 academic institution in the world is an honor I will never forget."

"What people do not know is that my parents were considering sending me to their camp this summer before the offer even came," Nunes said. "An offer as prestigious as this changes my final choices a bit."

Offers and scholarships are two different things. Typically they will assist in finding work for the athletes that will help pay for some if not all of their education. I had an offer from Yale but there was no scholarship, just a promise of assistance with the cost.

Hillary scares me as a person, not as a candidate. My statement was not meant to be political, just from a personal standpoint. Those pantsuits are creepy.

Regarding Ussery ... how many WRs does Coach Jones want on his roster?

We've got 14 on the roster already: Beckner, Bryant, Burley, Greenberg, Haynes, Henderson, Johnson, Medford, Moore, Robinson, Sanders, Sullivan, Thomas and Zimmerman.

Then you add in Drewery, Beasley, Loftin, Lee and Lunday, and that's 19.

Plus, we've offfered Darius Johnson, DeWayne Peace, Howard Scarborough and Markus Wheaton, and maybe this Ussery guy. Then there's the Soon guy from Hawaii (anyone find anything more about him?), and who knows how many other walk-ons. I realize there's always natural attrition, because of homesickness, grades, playing time, etc. But can one of our new Hawaiian PonyFans clue us in? How many receivers does Coach Jones want?

(I think I'm channeling my inner BUS, thinking we should start collecting more linemen, if only to balance out the roster a little.)

Soon (the walkon) will redshirt his freshman year. So, he really isn't going to count towards the total. And he apparently has the grades and SAT scores to earn academic scholarships, so he's more likely to not have to quit due to financial considerations.

SMU will need at least 8 game-ready WRs, and when I say game-ready I mean ready to play at the level of a starter in a passing offense.

The funny thing is that Jeff Reinbold is your WR coach, so I'm not surprised that you are going after so many WRs. Reinbold was Hawaii's DL coach and Hawaii ended up being deeper at the DL than I could ever remember. And my memory goes back 35+ years for Hawaii football. Hawaii actually rotated players during games and were THREE DEEP in the DL...with very little drop off. A backup DE for Hawaii was All-WAC.

One consideration is that it is probably easier for SMU to recruit higher-level WRs right now than linemen, as the offense would attract that position and team hasn't won yet to attract players at other positions. So, if you can get better quality and quantity at the WR spot now and in the line maybe in a year, maybe that is the strategy they are taking.

However, didn't SMU have a ton of OL/DL players at their Junior Day and there are a lot of offers out now? You are probably just hearing more about WRs right now because those might be the first to be attracted to the offers.
