I forgot about this place! I haven't been there in a couple years. I now have a weekend project.

I'll go three ways with this.

1) Herrerra's. Classic dive. Get the Jimmy's Special

2) Manny's for all the reasons mentioned above.

3) My new favorite (that I hesitate to mention here because there's only one location and not a lot of tables): Banditos in Snider Plaza. Seriously. Fantastic food that goes from Herrerras-style grease monsters to Mi Cocina-type dishes. Music is always Jerry Jeff, Pat Green, Willie. And a great atmosphere. Great bar. Highly recommended. http://banditos-dallas.com/

Desperados on Greenville and University has 5 dollar taco night on wednesdays. Life's good.

Weak chips and salsa though. Can't win em all.
We've never lost the tailgate.

That's good to know. I've wanted to venture in to that place but I always end up at Cisco Grill, Bubba's or Amore. I'm takin' your word for it and gonna try it out this week.

All good choices, especially Gloria's.

My favorite: Cuquita's (on Henderson east of 75 or in Richardson, at Coit and ... Spring Valley, I think). Both places are small, hole-in-the-wall places, so you have to really look for them, but well worth it, especially for their queso flameado (with chorizo). It's a heart attack waiting to happen, but it's unlilke anything anywhere else on the planet. Holy crap that stuff is good. If it wouldn't kill me by the weekend, I'd be there every day.

Overrated and overpriced, IMO. It's great for those post 2am weekends and for sobering up but not much else. It used to be a good place to get dinner(grew up in the neighborhood). However, the last couple of times that I've been there, I've ended up getting sick with stomach pains.

The tacos at Fuel City are great......voted "Best Taco in Texas" by Texas Monthly last year. They have tacos and tacos only - Picadillo, Beef Fajita, Chicken Fajita, Barbacoa, and Pastor. All are very good. They are open 24 hours but as with the area, it gets very shady after dark.

A) Didn't know they were open that late.
B) Overpriced? Compared to what? Taco Bell?
C) Overrated? Not a chance! It's the best in town - especially the queso. Some don't like it because it's continental Mexican - the real thing. There's stuff on the menu you can't find a lot of places around town, and part of the menu isn't even in English. Authentic greatness.
