Donovan said UH is talking "to several schools" about filling one of the two UH openings for 2009  Sept. 5 or Dec. 5  and confirmed that SMU is among them.
"Both sides are taking a look at it," Donovan said. "June is very supportive."

UT said they couldn't afford it. Think we can?
I'd prefer ND at Jerry World....

The two games do *not* affect each other. When a team plays a game in Hawaii, it does not count towards their limit for the year. So, by playing a game in Hawaii a team gets to add an extra game to their football schedule.

Money's no object for UT. That's about as much b.s. as us saying we don't have room on our schedule for Hawaii over the next 10 years.
Personally, I'd like to wait a few more years before playing Hawaii to give us a little time to be more competitive though I think we'd hang in there fairly well in 2009.

I highly doubt this game happens. Enormous expense, and we gain nothing. Coach Jones and his crew might pluck a player or two from the islands every now and then, but that's going to be a result of his reputation, not a sudden increase in exposure by playing there. If we beat Hawaii, it will be said that we're supposed to, because we stole the World's Greatest Coach. If we lose, all we do is boost Coach McMackin's program in Hawaii and show island recruits that they might want to stay out there and play at UH. No-win situation for us, and I bet it doesn't happen.

The 'Horns backed out of playing UH out there about three years ago, citing financial reasons. Something about it not making sense.
I was being sarcastic. It's obvious Mack Brown was afraid of going out there and getting his *ss kicked.

Oh stop being such a fraidy-cat. Extra game! Let's go to Hawaii. Haven't been in about 5 years. Problem with travel to Hawaii these days is that 3 airlines to the mainland went bankrupt last year and that has reduced competition and significantly raised prices.

I say we play Hawaii. I need an excuse to travel there. The cost to send someone there right now will run into the $1800 a player range. Not sure what UH pays, but we can probably get a $200K pay day out of the deal and cover our expenses.

Anyone think that such a game might be a back door way of paying off their lawsuit against JJ?
