I think if their lawsuit goes full circle on JJ, he gives them the figurative middle finger and we don't end up playing them.
We've never lost the tailgate.

Something else to keep in mind... with a 12 game schedule you have to win 6 to be bowl eligible. With a 13 game schedule you have to win 7. We should not play at Hawaii unless we feel comfortable that we will not be on that bubble. If it were to end up costing us a bowl opportunity on top of the cost of the trip, it would be tragic.

Just play the game and stop worrying about ways to back into the Weed-Eater Bowl

Isn't it more likely that SMU playing at Hawaii is part of the settlement?

That was the point of my question. Was scheduling an '09 game at Hawaii, a back door payment to get rid of the JJ lawsuit? It would very much be a way to give UH the equivalent of a $400,000 payday without reimbursing it to JJ and without it costing us $400,000.

I'd prefer ND at Jerry World....
As ive been saying, this wont happen until SMU starts winning. so maybe after the end of the season, we can start planning this

Looks like UCA (University of Central Arkansas) is on the verge of signing to play Hawaii on September 5 in Hawaii. They (UCA) wanted to play on Thursday (4th) to have more time to recover for their next game but it appears they have compromised on Friday the 5th. $125,000 payday after expenses.

and people bitched when we scheduled Ark St (who went on to pound us last year).
Maybe we could schedule Ouachita Baptist?

FWIW, UCA has been a pretty strong team in a lower division. They have won at least one national championship in the not too distant past. If I am not mistaken (I do not follow them closely) they have made the move to Div1A either this year or recently. They should be nothing but a walk over for Hawaii, but they do have a respectable past at a lower level, and probably would have played us well in the past few years.
The biggest problem here was getting someone with an available date to play. I can not blame Hawaii for scheduling a much lesser team when it was all they could get.

That was the location of my first open water SCUBA dive almost 16 years ago. Just beautiful.

If we played in Hawaii and get an extra game, that could be a big plus. It would give us a chance to have a bowl eligible number of wins while still having a losing season (6-7). And with the conference ties to bowls, we just might get lucky. Or we could have a 7-6 season and really look strong. Plus the kids get one more college game to play in their careers. And it is a nice trip for the kids which may never make it to Hawaii ever.
Lots of pluses to this possibility.

Do we really want to risk injury by playing an extra game potentially causing us to lose some conference games? Until Hawaii is on creampuff status to us, I'd rather not play them.
