Of Notre Dame's 11 athletic directors, only two have not been graduates of the school.
C-ya @ Milos!
Hey guys, talked to someone this afternoon who is a BIG ND alum and he stated that its done. ND is working on tweaking a few things in their package but that "if Orisini takes the job its his" Take that for what its worth......
If that's the case, he's gone. Can't blame him, either. If I got a chance to run the athletic department at SMU, I'd jump at it, too. He'd make good money up there, he gets a chance to run things at his alma mater, and his wife gets to go home. It's been fun, Steve-O.
Here's hoping the next AD is even better.
LONG LIVE THE STEVE-O!
Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
For what it is worth, my soures say that no package has been put together, and the ND search is still in the "search" phase, but Orsini is in the top 3, but his stock is falling.
Orsini clearly has talent, but if you look at his time at SMU, technically the football team AND the bball team has gotten worse!
If he goes, I want Terry Holland.
another article on this issue
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports ... re-da.html last paragraph reads: Another question: Does Notre Dame want a puppet AD? There's a school of though that the AD in South Bend is merely a fundraiser, period, and not a hirer of football and basketball coaches and not the end-of-the-line decision maker for key athletics decisions.
Just my own opinions
First, ND has a history of throwing curves in the hiring of key personnel. In this case being a favorite, based upon recent history, is a problem for them. Second, a number of ND alumn are not at all happy about football and the cost of their "dream" coach. Being an ex-teamate and friend of Weiss is not seen as a positive. Steve is in a perfect situation here in Dallas and South Bend is really a small place. It is especially small if your mother-in-law and sister-in-law live there too! Did I mention the weather?
For what it's worth, which I know isn't much, I spoke with a well connected Dallas ND Alum Thursday morning. He said he really had not heard much and would make some calls. He called me back late Thurs afternoon and said his sources said "the list" is down to three candidates and Orisin is one of the three, in fact he said his sources thought that Orsini is currently the leading candidate.
C-ya @ Milos!
That's true, except I also can see them sitting in a smoke-filled room, counting their NBC money and blustering about how "Notre Dame doesn't use the word 'interim' ... because we're better than anyone. We must have the world's greatest AD tomorrow, or at least hire everyone and get NBC to report that our selection is the greatest AD in the world... I didn't get a 'harumph' outta that guy!!"
Oh, the justice if he leaves!
![]() Double winner -- gets to return to alma mater and doesn't have to worry about whether the JJ deal works out.
