SMU FOOTBALL 7 ON 7 TOURNAMENT
The Arlington Lamar Vikings went 6-0 and won the SMU tournament yesterday beating South Garland, Lake Highlands, Denton Ryan, Richardson, Mansfield Summit and Denton Guyer. The Vikes are 24-1 in tournament play this season.
Of more interest to most PonyFans, the SMU coaches were very visible and friendly to the talent on campus. I know Coach Jones watched two full games of ours standing on the sidelines.

This is a staff that just "gets it" from a recruiting standpoint. We are already seeing an improvement over Bennett and his attempt to field a 2A all-star team at SMU. Don't get me wrong I played 2A high school ball in East Texas, but it seemed like Bennett concentrated more on finding these really obscure, small-town kids and didn't make many inroads here in Dallas (especially DISD). With the commitment of Chris Frazier (Skyline) hopefully we can hope to see more Dallas talent staying home and playing for the Mustangs.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Phil Bennett should get some credit for actively starting and extending certain of the high school camps and 7 on 7 Tournaments at SMU. This was a trend throughout the NCAA and became more common during his tenure but still Bennett was able to lure the 7 on 7 Tournament, a Nike Camp and some other well known recruiting camps to Ford so I think some of that criticism of Bennett is a tad unfair.

Thanks Stallion for once again setting the record straight. Fans need to understand that JJ has done nothing yet. The recruits we are getting this next year are no better than the players we have been getting. Its not the coaches fault, its the school. Time will tell with JJ. How many criminals (as some of you say) will JJ bring in to revamp this program? Remember, he was recruiting in Hawaii, now he has to recruit at SMU and then win. Hasn't happened yet. So some of you ger off his jock until the tide turns. He may not be able to do it. DOH hasn't, and won't!

all have something in their past that would have definitely prevented their admission to SMU in this past. I really do think that there has been substantial change in admission procedure-but to some extent some of the other recruits are basically what we have been getting in the past. We aren't in the same ballpark with TCU most all of whose recruits have big time offer lists. Let's see what happens though because SMU has I believe made a good faith effort to deal with the problem. But I can tell you that this 2009 team WILL be better than it would have been because SMU has eased up on their traditional admission standards

On paper the coaching staff we had is better and more experienced than JJ's crew, with the exception of JJ vs PB. PB was not ready to be a HC. It showed on game day. Practices were great. PB is a great defensive mind despite his record at SMU. You need talent and we dont have but a few talented players. Copeland screwed this thing up on purpose, ( and I hope he is feeling beter, heard he was under the weather). He hired two coaches knowing they would not last through their contract. PB did because O had no replacement at the time any better. The BB coach before DOH signed a 4 year contract, making sure he would not get to coach any of his 5th year seniors. Copeland was fed up and left us in terrible shape.
And for the record Bryce Hudman is walking on the the football team after getting his scholarship taken because the DB coach can't relate to the Houston thug. Our best defensive player has to walk on. Hud is better than every DB they had in Hawaii.

"Houston Thug."
Funny. He went to Klein Oak. 45 minutes North of Houston. The place is pretty country/Hickish if you asked me, and I played them every year.
We've never lost the tailgate.
