The best line in the paragraph:
"As a junior, he threw for 1,241 yards and 18 touchdowns for a team that lost only to national champion SMU."
That pretty much tells you all you need to know.

"Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

ah, but TCU still got the last laugh.
That year when the two schools played, a bid to the Rose Bowl was on the line. SMU got it-- and lost in Pasadena.
TCU went to the Sugar Bowl, beat LSU, and brought home a share of the national title, too. I believe it was both schools' first MNC.
The next turbo-charged matchup was in '38; Davey O'Brien led the Horned Frogs to victory, and were national champs that year, too. O'Brien brought home the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Heisman trophies for that campaign.

Mr. Froggiewoggie,
Do you, as a TCU fan, really have so much of an inferiority complex that you have to come and "prove" that your school deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with SMU by posting an ESPN story that says that Baugh was the "face" of the 1930s?
It appears that you do have that much of an inferiority complex.
Don't worry. I'll pray for your speedy return to mental health.

I don't think anyone went over to the TCU fan board to flaunt Doak Walker being named the 'Face of SMU', did they?CalallenStang wrote:Mr. Froggiewoggie,

in an article highlighting Sam Baugh as the player of the decade? You wish!
Whomever wrote that story wanted to highlight the low point for Slingin Sammy. it really wasnt necessary to add that part about SMU but it was done for a reason.

Not to my knowledge, but then again, I wouldn't know. I don't frequent killerfrogs.

Come now, kids: it's not a rivaly if we all ignore each other! Besides-- it wasn't Baugh's place as ESPN's "Face of the Program" that I came here to flaunt-- it's Baugh's place as face of the decade that I'm flaunting.
I frankly admit that I posted that up here to stir up the nest. You responded appropriately.
I can't wait to see your new program in September; hopefully it will be a game.
On that note, I think that one of the best things that could happen to TCU football is a resurgent SMU. I wish the MWC would invite y'all to join the conference; it'd be beneficial for everybody but C-USA.
Discuss.
