Come now, kids: it's not a rivaly if we all ignore each other! Besides-- it wasn't Baugh's place as ESPN's "Face of the Program" that I came here to flaunt-- it's Baugh's place as face of the decade that I'm flaunting.

I frankly admit that I posted that up here to stir up the nest. You responded appropriately.

I can't wait to see your new program in September; hopefully it will be a game.

On that note, I think that one of the best things that could happen to TCU football is a resurgent SMU. I wish the MWC would invite y'all to join the conference; it'd be beneficial for everybody but C-USA.

Discuss.

I don't know about that. Most of us are looking forward to driving down I45 to Houston for our first conference game. Personally, I'd much prefer that drive than the jaunt up 287, then I40, for what is it a 10 or 12 hour drive to your nearest conference mate in Albuquerque?

I wouldn't have a problem with TCU being in C-USA.
Oh, waitaminute. Been there, done that, haven't they?

and we're damn glad that's over and done...

The MWC is a much stiffer league to compete in. And if Smew were to get a seat at the table, your closest league foe wouldn't be in Fort Worth, not New Mexico...

TCU would be the closest, yes. Everyone else would be waaaayyyy too far away for my tastes. I'd rather just play the Froggies once every few years and kick their [deleted] that way. ;)

Much stiffer, yes. Good luck getting into the BCS after losing to BYU, Utah and (what was it?...) Air Force.

Stiffer competition?

Some of TCUs best years in the modern era have been playing against MWC competition. In fact the best year (2005 - #14 - 11-1) TCU went through that league like a hot knife through butter and their only loss was to a team that only managed a (5-6) record playing against CUSA competition. Now which team was that again?

There are some decent teams in the MWC, but when you get to UNLV, San Diego, Wyoming, Colorado St - those are some really bad teams, unless you have to travel to BFE and play them in the clouds.

I'm happy in CUSA and have no desire for SMU to be in a western-oriented league again - too many dank airport lounges out west.

These debates will continue. The issue is not whether MWC is better or not than CUSA. Than will vary year to year. I believe everyone wants a regional schedule and conference, which is much preferred for recruiting, fans, attendance, and tradition for both revenue and non-revenue sports.

IMHO, overtime, TCU will or already has regreted the decision to bolt and get away from an inferior SMU. The reason is debateable, but their hubris is not. Unless they win every game in one year, the Frogs gain little or nothing.

The losers are their alums, fans, parents, etc. for revenue and non-revenue sports, who are unlikely to see road games, meets, matches, events, etc.

Why would a recruit in any sport prefer to disappear one and two time zones away for all on-road competitions?

I'm glad that Sammy Baugh was the player of the 30's. But he lost the only game that mattered, the game of the century to SMU. That and of course that NFL Championship to the Bears (73-0) ouch!!!

How many teams again has CUSA had in the top 25 since SMU joined? 0, Nada, Zilch.

We had a down year and we beat the 1 CUSA team on our schedule, and one at a bowl game in their home town.

And while I like the invitation to banter, I probably wouldn't have posted this.

The Bears - 1940 Title Game

12/8/40
George Halas surprises the Washington Redskins with his "T" formation offense in the NFL Championship game. The strategy proves more than effective as the Bears rout the Redskins 73-0 before 36,034 fans in Washington D.C. The gameplan signals the beginning of pro football's modern era. Each player receives $873.

A league with parity will do that.

So MWC has more teams in the top 25 consistently, but just to cut off your legs a little bit, your stats to back it up are wrong.

I'd be willing to bet that UCF makes it up there this season, as well.

Here is what I see as being the primary difference in the two leagues in the first three seasons since the moves in 2005; performance against competition from BCS conference teams.

Since 2005 the MWC can boast victories against the following BCS conference teams Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oregon, Ucla (2), Kansas, Iowa St., Colorado, Notre Dame, Washington, Missouri, Arizona, Baylor (2), Stanford, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Mississippi. Now most of these teams aren’t at the top of their conferences, just a lot of middle of the pack BCS teams, but it’s these kinds of victories that CUSA is going to need more of to close the RPI and the perception gap between the two conferences.

Very much looking forward to the game this year. A new coach should help to bring some new energy to the rivalry.
