Some of TCUs best years in the modern era have been playing against MWC competition. In fact the best year (2005 - #14 - 11-1) TCU went through that league like a hot knife through butter and their only loss was to a team that only managed a (5-6) record playing against CUSA competition. Now which team was that again?
There are some decent teams in the MWC, but when you get to UNLV, San Diego, Wyoming, Colorado St - those are some really bad teams, unless you have to travel to BFE and play them in the clouds.
I'm happy in CUSA and have no desire for SMU to be in a western-oriented league again - too many dank airport lounges out west.
How many teams again has CUSA had in the top 25 since SMU joined? 0, Nada, Zilch.
We had a down year and we beat the 1 CUSA team on our schedule, and one at a bowl game in their home town.
And while I like the invitation to banter, I probably wouldn't have posted this.
Final Rankings of top MWC teams versus CUSA opponents
2007 - BYU 11-2 #14 AP & USA - BYU 47 - Tulsa 55
2006 - BYU 11-2 #16 AP & #15 USA - BYU 49 - Tulsa 24
2005 - TCU 11-1 #11 AP & #9 USA - TCU 10 - SMU 21
"Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
Not to be redundant, but the most statistically significant criterion for judging the two conferences head-to-head has been largely ignored, and I feel like this argument has gone on needlessly longer than it should. This factor affects student life, alumni support, recruiting, and even TV ratings.

Do you mean, "Once in a blue moon"?
Yeah CUSA is closer to D/FW, but other than that, I can't think of a single measure by which it's superior to MWC. Wait-- it has better bowl tie-ins.
(But worse bowl teams!)
Your reply sounds like "oh yeah, my Dad's bigger you" No comment on 95% my post saying MWC is a bad choice for TCU and its fans, alums, student-athletes, and parents for all sports? You do have an Athletic Department and supporters, and not just a FB team?

dude-- it's our Athletic department and supporters that prefer the MWC to other alternatives.

And the regret will come, especially if you experience .500 seasons or less. Except for some FB possibilities, the rest of the athletic teams, parents, fans, etc. pay a big penalty.
At some point, the question will be raised by many, "and, why did we do this? MWC or CUSA will never get in the BCS. Oh yeah, get away from SMU."

Hubris
well, we're three years in, and I see zero sign of your prophecy coming true.

What undercurrents of discontent do you see at TCU about playing in the MWC? If wishing made it so, maybe you'd find some; but as presently aligned, the MWC is the best non-BCS conference to be in, and we're happy to be there. I've never heard a peep otherwise.

YOU MUST BE REALLY BORED. more than half of your posts have occurred in this thread. who gives a damn about what conference is better. MVC and CUSA arent that good. WAC is the BEST nonBCS school and until one school from MVC/CUSA makes the bcs, no one can brag about which conference is better

I guess, but hasn't the WAC really been a better football conference pretty much since TCU went to the MWC? How would a round robin between the top three in each league pan out? Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii...take the amalgamate of their last three years and put it against Utah, TCU and...BYU/UNM/AFA?

Just looking at Hawaii's record:
2007: 1-0 vs. MWC, 1-0 vs. Pac-10
2006: 1-0 vs. MWC, 1-1 vs. Pac-10, 1-0 vs. Big 10
2005: 1-0 vs. MWC, 0-1 vs. Pac-10 (USC)
Last 3 years: 3-0 vs. MWC, 2-2 vs. Pac-10, no games vs. C-USA

Like I said, WAC is byfar the better non BCS conference. both MWC and CUSA should be aiming to be better than them

I agree with you that the top of the WAC has been better than the top of the MWC and C-USA. However, as a Hawaii fan I hate that Utah State, Idaho, NMSU, La Tech, etc. drag down the strength of schedule for the conference teams. That almost cost Hawaii dearly in the BCS standings last season.
