Exactly what great talent did Phil Bennett have. Certainly it was NOT reflected in the recruiting rankings. You guys can't give it up about this Coaching miracle theory. The talent level that came through SMU during Bennett's reign was marginal-below average. The problem was RECRUITING(including institutional obstacles)

My point is that those were 40 times coming out of high school. These are players that gained 30-40 pounds and retained or even strengthened their speed numbers. Another example would be adam carriker who was 235 out of high school and ran a 4.7. All I'm saying is that if he runs a 4.8 (rivals), at that size, he's not so far outside the high school proportions of some of college football's best the last couple years and we're not asking him to be a 1st round draft pick. He just can't lose a step.

I wouldn't spend much time at all worrying about unverified times. Scout and Rivals tell you which times are verified-they don't have a verified time on Williams. It could be based on hearsay or an off-hand guesstimate by his high school coach. Its certainly not worth arguing about if it isn't verified. He looks like an athlete-noted he regularly scored in double figures in BB sometimes in rebounds too.

If you take away our arguing , for what will we have reason to live?

I spend a lot of time worrying about a lot of things. I don't spend any time worrying about JJ's ability to recruit or develop players.

I've always maintained that heights, weights and running times are useless unless verified by recruiting services, a recognized camp or official high school track meet.

I preface this by saying this is not directed to this young man, but don't the top 2 photos of our guy look like preliminary mug shots in case he were ever arrested?

Or there are guys who run slow-but-verified times (wet track, slight hamstring - whatever) who end up running faster than a "verified" time. If he's fast enough, coaches will discover it on film and in person.

SMU offered him in May, they must feel pretty good about him.

Texas Football rated him as one of the Top 25 Defensive Lineman in the State in their Summer magazine. Obviously someone other than JJ sees a lot of potential in him.
BTW it looks like JJ is going to give us one of the best classes in memory if this keeps up as he already has commits from 5 players off this list and ALL are lineman!

Hopefully he will bring a couple more back from Samoa. Trouble will be the airlines charging for the extra weight.

TCU DE commit Byrant House runs a 4.9 40.
According to the latest interview with Braylon Williams, he runs a 4.8
One obvious difference is that Byrant House weights 270 compared
to Braylon Williams 235. TCU's other DE commit James Dunbar is
6'6" 290 and runs a 4.79.
