Perhaps my statement was misunderstood. I, by no means, would drive from Dallas to El Paso for the SMU game. My implication was that such a drive (ANYTIME!) would definitely be the 'ultimate' road trip'! Yes...if I attend the SMU v UTEP game, my $$$ will be spent getting there on SWA.
And with gas prices what they are, the flight is likely to be cheaper!
Maybe not. Those flying anywhere on SW had best make their plans today. I am shocked (though not surprised) by the increase in rates. Plane/car rental/and hotel have increased to a point that my trips to Dallas for the home games have almost doubled in cost. The cheaper flights on SW (web only) are filling up fast. They just became available today for flights after 10/30, so get online and reserve while you can. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Mrydel thanks for the "heads up" about booking a flight to El Paso for the SMU/UTEP game Sat Nov 15. When I checked SW Airlines the other day those dates were not available to book yet. This morning I just booked 5 seats. Some of us are on Flight#2867 on Friday going Dallas to El Paso, some of us are on Flight#841 on Sat morning going Dallas to El Paso. Then we are all on Flight#389 returning victorious from El Paso on Sunday. Looks like for us the RT fares to El Paso that weeked average about $195 per person. Thanks again, you know airfares will be going nothing but upward. We are now booked hotel and airfare!

By the looks of the map shown above if we party too hardy after beating the Miners the hospital is only a few blocks away from the stadium & hotel.

Price any flights lately? It's not universally true, but a lot of flights are getting a lot more expensive ... and quickly.
